A handsome first print copy in very good condition--issued without dustjacket. Red Cloth with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Lightly rubbed boards with age toning to the text block. Some light spotting and discoloration to bottom of interior pages at rear of book and rear board -but very faint. Light weakness to the front hinge--only starting. Original tissue guard protecting title page still in place. A collectible copy from a Pulitzer Prize winning author.

NEW YORK: The Century Company, 1888. First American Edition 1st Printing. Hard Paper Wraps. Near Fine/Slipcased. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Printing 1888. From the collection of Jean Hersholt--who was the Danish actor who played Heidi's grandfather in the original movie with Shirley Temple in the title role. A fine copy in original hard wrappers, uncut and protected over the years in a custom chemise and slipcase--which Hersholt had custom made. Besides acting, Hersholt was a noted collector and a noted translator of the works of Hans Christian Anderson into English (translated over 150 works). This copy is labeled with Hersholt's custom gold label and signed by him on the label at the top. In addition the custom chemise has a small sticker with the notation of "No. 576"--From the library of Jean Hersholt". U.S.A.: Harper & Brothers, 1922. First Edition 1st Printing. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. First Printing 1922. From the collection of well known collector M.B. Goldstone--who, along with his brother, Homer Goldstone--were Steinbeck's bibliographers. A very good copy in a very good unclipped dustjacket. Light age toning--mostly to the page edges. A complete dustjacket, unclipped with the original $2.00 price--with only moderate edgewear--mostly to the head and heel of the spine. Set in and around the Texas oil fields after the first World War. A nice copy. Will be carefully wrapped and shipped in a box.

From the recently auctioned collection of the Goldstone brothers (Steinbeck's bibliographers)--this one with the custom gold bookplate loosely applied to the front endpaper and M.B. Goldstone's penciled signature to the front free endpaper. Near fine in brown cloth and gilt lettering and decorations to the front board and spine. A couple of minor splotches only. A tight and square copy--clean throughout and with the original tissue guard covering the frontispiece. Typical of the high quality of the Goldstone collection. 606 pp plus 4 pp of adv at rear including ad for Johnston's "The Long Roll". A most collectible copy covering Indiana, the mid-west and Indiana politics. Additional pics available.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co, 1933. First Edition . Decorative Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. First Printing. A very good copy in a very good unclipped ($2.50) dustjacket. A sturdy copy in black cloth with blue lettering and pennant decorations to front board. 305 pp. Decorative endpapers and pastedowns. Edgewear to one top edge--some of the board is worn away--about an inch. Also some wear to the rear board at the top where a little of the cloth has been worn away. Dusty paper edges. Otherwise a tight sturdy copy with clean interior. Dustjacket has edgewear and chipping to the top and a little at the heel of the spine--some darkening to the spine as well--not a near fine copy--but certainly a very good copy with a colorful front dustjacket. Author won the pulitzer prize for "Laughing Boy".

Rare copy of first American edition in red cloth boards with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Very good condition with medium age toning to cloth boards and a little darkening to cloth spine--hinges are lightly cracked but repairable. Interior is very clean with only the original owner's name in ink on front free endpaper. Glasgow won the Pulitzer prize for fiction later in her life and was extremely popular in the early part of the 20th century.

BOSTON: James R. Osgood & Co., 1872. First Edition . Decorative Cloth. Fine/No Jacket. 24mo - over 5 - 5¾" tall. First Edition/2nd State 1872. A handsome copy in green cloth with gilt decorations to the front board and spine. This copy is in fine condition--only a couple of light flecks to the front board. Magnificent gold gilt decoration to the front board of a "Winged Urn" which would become Holmes decoration of choice for his future publications. This copy has a perfectly intact tissue guard over the title page and frontispiece. No spine give or interior markings--in magnificent shape for a book of 150 years. Two copies available--from a recent auction with the auction tag tipped in.

Same as first state except color (green instead of maroon) and one change in lettering to page 9 in chapter title--misspelled the word "table". In just about fine condition except slight darkening to the cloth spine. Green cloth with gilt decorations to spine and front board--winged urn. Tissue guard is still intact and protecting the title page and marvelous illustrated frontispiece--no spine give--no interior markings--a nice collectible copy.

Very collectible condition. Clean throughout. From the recently auctioned collection of noted collector and Steinbeck biographer M.B. and Adrian Homer Goldstone. Minor rubbing to the green cloth. From the author of "In Ole Virginia". Several illustrations throughout by Clinedinst, including the frontispiece--which is still tissue guarded.

Goldstone had this copy enclosed in a custom green cloth dustjacket with a small leather title on spine and gilt lettering including the words "First Edition 1879" to bottom cloth spine DJ. Copy and DJ are enclosed in a custom made green morocco slipcase with green matching cloth of the DJ. First issue points include date on title page and first ad at rear covering Frances Hodgson Burnett. Book and dustjacket in near fine condition--only normal age toning. From the recently auctioned collection of M.B. Goldstone. Finely bound in fine condition--tight and square--totally clean pages with only very minor darkening to the red cloth spine. A first print copy published immediately after the original magazine issues from Harper. Near fine condition. Lightly toned grey/beige cloth boards--with attractive green and gilt decorations of a spider and web with a heart to the front board and spine. Front hinge is cracked but binding is sturdy without give. An altogether very attractive copy from the first "Du Maurier". From a recent Bonham's and Butterfield's auction of early modern literature.

Previous owner's name in ink to the front pastedown with some light age toning to the front and rear pastedowns---this copy came from the recently auctioned collection of M.B. Goldstone and has his penciled signature to the front free endpaper along with "First Edition" notations. Goldstone and his brother were well known collectors and Steinbeck bibliographers. This is a very collectible copy in fine condition.
