Descripción:
Five issues in four fascicles, 135,343,192,199 pp., comprising a complete run of the Mexican literary - critical - philosophical journal, illustrated throughout. 8vo. Very good. Illus. stiff wraps. [1392]
A fascinating and much overlooked magazine founded and edited by Latin American leftist intellectuals including Bolivar Echeverria, Guy Rozat, Manuel Lavaniegos, Rafael Segovia, and Alan Arias. The journal is inflected with a darkly humorous and subversive spirit, leavening new Spanish-language translations of George Bataille, Ernst Bloch, Rudi Dutschke, and Max Horkheimer with original articles and works of graphic art by members of the Palos circle. Echeverria has remarked that the Palos collective sought to use the serial as a platform for cultural resistance in Latin America, in the search for an "alternative modernity, that is, a non-capitalist modernity." International collaborators and friends cited in the masthead include Henri Lefebvre, Armin Shoenberger, Luis Gómez, Michele Alban, Esther… Leer más

A scarce complete set of the important and influential journal of postmodern experimental prose, notable for early publications of Acker's Blood and Guts in High School and the beginning of Great Expectations. Periodics includes contributions by Kathy Acker, Michael Ondaatje, George Bowering, Larry Eigner, Penny Chalmers, Michael Rumaker, Barry Gifford, David Young, Michael Palmer, David McFadden, Ann Ireland, Douglas Barbour, David Benedetti, Lyn Hejinian, David Young, Penny Kemp, bpNichol, Charles Bernstein, Fred Wah, Duncan McNaughton, Gladys… Leer más

Descripción:
Unpaginated artist's book, [ca. 104 pp.], illustrated throughout. 12mo. Triple signed and inscribed on the title page : "Dear Now Tina, Happy Birthday, New York City 1978, Lawrence" ; "One I Missed! Tina 5/26/78" ; "One of our acts, SH [Suzanne Harris]".) [1282]
With elements similar to Hard Light, Weiner's photographic book work with Ed Ruscha, Pertaining to a Structure pairs photos by Daniel Buren of "the players" (Madeleine Burnside, Steve Blutter, Norman Fisher, Suzanne Harris, Robert Stearns, and Ann-Sargent Wooster) with enigmatic texts by Weiner. The book is dedicated to the memory of Norman Fisher, who had died early that year of cancer. This exemplar is inscribed by Weiner to Tina Girouard (1946 – 2020) an important feminist artist and early founding participant of 112 Greene St., FOOD, the Clocktower and PS1, Creative Time, Performance Art and the Fabric Workshop. Girouard has also annotated the work's title page, regretting that she "missed" the action documented by Buren and Weiner.… Leer más

[Cover title : "Les Artistes Musicalistes se Présentent"] Approximately [40] pp. [1] glossy plate in color ; illus. in black and white with texts in French including manifestos and lists of works by member artists. Oblong 8vo. Very good. Saddle stapled silver foil wrappers printed in red, surfaces a bit rubbed and oxidized, but surprisingly bright. [1603]
Catalog for the December 1932 - January 1933 presentation at Galerie de la Renaissance in Paris, including works by Maurice Barret, Gustave Bourgogne, Jean Carlu, Da Silva Bruhns, Arne Hosek, Henri Valensi and others. The book is striking production with dynamic typography and page designs throughout, including an attractive application of Cassandre's "Le Bifur" on the reflective metallic covers. According to our own rough translation the group's manifesto, ""It is clear to everyone that the key characters of the beginning of this century are: the applications of science and generalized dynamism, which bring into their orbit : rhythm, harmony,… Leer más

70 pp. collection of stories, illustrated throughout. 8vo. [Accent of California International Writers Series, 2] Very good. Illus. stiff wraps. [1406]
The Kentucky-born, Los Angeleno author's debut short story collection, including "The Price of Dirt," "The Way of Shadows," "In the Dark," "Waiting for Mongo," and "Roman Times," which won the Gwendolyn Brooks Literary Award in 1972. In his preface to the work, Jones explains that "most of the stories in this collection employ modern literary techniques as diverse as impressionism and surrealism, and especially important is the experimental synthesis of fantasy/realism. Myths and mythical notions, for example, are sometimes utilized in a campy fashion. Black field hand dialect might end up in the mouths of the most educated aristocrats. Nevertheless, all of this is not only plausible and appropriate to the situation, but also creates effects which are organically natural to the stories in this book. THE PRICE OF DIRT is the collected stories of a… Leer más

First six issues, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 28 pp., of Dom Rabban's anarcho-syndicalist magazine of punk music and radical politics from the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire, illustrated throughout in color, with strikingly inventive covers and page spreads. 30.5 cm (nos. 1-3) and 25 cm (nos. 4-6). Very good. Illus. wrappers. [507]
According to a 2012 interview with Rabban (conducted by Zine Weekly), Proper Gander captured the cultural and political excitement of Sheffield in the early 1980s, with local bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Pulp and the Human League hitting the mainstream and the miner's strike errupting in nearby towns. "Politically too there was lots going on - Proper Gander documented all this - and many of the main players in the music scene were regular contributors. Between 1980 and 1985 we produced twenty issues...We were the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire. We had dirt cheap public transport, workers coops and David Blunkett leading the revolution! We didn't take any notice of… Leer más

Illustrated poster, silkscreened in heavy black ink on good paper. Sheet is 26 x 20 in ; image is 18.5 x 13 in. 50 or fewer copies are known to have been printed. An excellent copy, obtained directly from flat file storage by the exhibition curator, Marc Miller. Minor mar-ginal toning, else near fine. Miller tells us that this poster was created by students in Al Brunele's printmaking workshop at School of Visual Arts in vanishingly small numbers, advertising an exhibition of works by "Diego Cortez, John Holmstrom, M. Henry Jones, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ruth Marten, Miller-Ringma-Hoppe, Pat Place, Screaming Mad George, Arturo Vega, and more…" Originally presented in D.C. with Washington Project for the Arts from May 10-June 15, 1978, Punk Art was staged at SVA's amphitheater in New York City as a one-night-only, multimedia event in November 1978. The exhibition resurfaced in June of 1979 as an exhibition at Art Something gallery in Amsterdam, Holland. It is widely acknowledged to have been one of the… Leer más
