Descripción:
The First UK printing published by George Allen & Unwin, London in 1939 The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition with the publisher's original red cloth boards, lettered to the spine and the front board in black. Some light ghosting to the covers in places with some dust-marking and light spotting to the top edge. Early splaying of the front board. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition with some fading and toning to the spine. A few marks in places with a small closed tear to the upper spine fold with a little associated loss. The wrapper presents well in the removable Brodart archival cover. This book was previously owned by the Scottish Modernest artist and lawyer Edwin G Lucas with his penned name and date 1939 to the upper front blank end-paper. The title is ironic, as the book conveys the author's revulsion to anti-semitism following his visit to Germany in 1937. An increasingly scarce title. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Descripción:
The First UK printing published by The Hogarth Press, London in 1938. The BOOK is in near Fine condition and appears unread. A hint of pushing at the spine tips with only very light toning and dustiness to the text-block. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just very slight toning to the spine and light age related markings. The Vanessa Bell wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Only 1200 copies printed (Woolmer 439). A very sharp copy of the author's first novel and extremely scarce to find in such condition. As nice a copy as you are likely to find. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Descripción:
The true First UK printing published by Gollancz in 1929. The Book is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. The wraps binding remains tight. The covers are mildly soiled and toned. The spine is intact with two small closed tears to the upper spine folds. The end papers and prelims are spotted with somemild spotting to the page edges in places throughout. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Sherriff's good fortune with the phenomenal success of what is essentially a mediocre play depended in large part on the appearance in the intital production of the work - by the Incorporated Stage Society in a two-day run at the Apollo Theatre in December 1928 - of the 21-year old Lawrence Olivier (directed by the equally unknown James Whale). The production transferred to The Savoy Theatre for a three-week run in January 1929 and thence to The Prince of Wales where it ran for two years, during which time it was also produced by 14 other companies in the Anglophone world and in 17 other languages across the… Leer más
