A spiral of trees at the heart of the Borgie woodland in north west Sutherland brings to life the ancient Gaelic tree alphabet. This volume explores the origins of the alphabet, tells of the traditional significance of each tree in Gaelic culture and the practical uses that Highlanders have made of the timber and alphabet. Beautifully illustrated, with some of the images being the work of children at schools in Altnaharra, Bettyhill, Melvich and Tongue. Oblong format.

Written in conversational style, hints and tips on how to achieve a happy and peaceful way of life. These Epworth Press Wayside Special books are now hard to find, which is shame because their easy style and sound advice make them really quite useful.

Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 296pp, illustrated with hand lay outs etc. Red cloth-covered boards (a little rounded at corners), and internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring a few mild marks on endpapers. In its original dust jacket (a little chipped at edges and some short cracking on rear spine fold, with some visible shelf wear). Ben Cohen's first bridge book, Change to Acol, did more to 'acolise' the bidding of bridge players than any other book and went into third editions before being superseded by this volume, with its more up to date approach to ACOL bridge. This fast became the standard textbook on the subject. 8vo.
