Limited edition, no. 597 of 600 copies, large 8vo, (xvi), 277, (3) pp. Black and white illustrations, signed "Harry Garratt" to the limitations page in the same hand that has numbered this copy. Original gilt titled reverse calf, some mild wear to spine otherwise very good.

Seven works in one volume, 8vo. Upper wrapper of Blacow's Defence bound in, "The Queen that Jack Found" with 13 woodcuts - 12 by George Cruikshank - and bound without the advertisements, Osmer's Dissertation lacking one leaf (pp 43/4). Some light foxing and soiling, old manuscript contents list to front blank, marbled endpapers, sides and edges, bookplates to paste down and fly leaf. 19th century half calf, slightly worn, rebacked with a black label reading "Pamphlets". A varied collection of 18th and 19th century works, including several very rare items. Scholefield's sermon followed the riots and destruction of the Dissenters' chapels in Birmingham. The Abstract and Appendix to the Sacred Tragedy are removed from a larger work. Rev. Richard Blacow was convicted of libel, having referred to Queen Caroline in a sermon as "the Goddess of Lust", and she is also the subject of the lively poem "The Queen That Jack Found", which contains caricatures… Leer más

Large 8vo. 119, (5) pp. Publisher's pale blue cloth with darker blue lettering to the spine and upper board, contemporary gift inscription to the front free endpaper, dust jacket. Black and white photographic illustrations throughout. Wear with losses to the edges of the jacket, the book very good. Published in conjunction with the film "Elephant Boy", released the previous year, which was based on the story "Toomai of the Elephants" from Kipling's "Jungle Book"

(iv), 316, 47, (1) pp. Publisher's crimson cloth, gilt lettered to the spine and upper board, the latter with elaborate blindstamped decoration, the bookplate of a Mary Landon Baker featuring an illustration of a Venetian palazzo to the front pastedown. Mild fading to the spine and slight bumping to the ends and the corners, very good overall. Mary Landon Baker (1901-61) was an American socialite who cut quite a dash through US and, later, European high societies. She was described as "Chicago's best gift to Europe" and purportedly received 65 marriage proposals. Baker famously jilted one lover three times, to the point where "Mary Bakered" became a common colloquial phrase to describe someone who had not turned up for an important event. New York: Random House, (1939).. First edition, 8vo, (viii), 293, (1) pp. Cloth, d.w., light rubbing to the spine ends and faint soiling to the lower wrapper otherwise a very good copy.

(Printed and Published by Douglas Pepler, Hampshire House, Hammersmith, and Ditchling, Sussex, 1916).. Large 8vo, 24 pp. 14 woodcuts, one page printed in green. Original printed wrappers, spine torn with a repair to the inside, edges bumped with some minor marks. The cuts include 11 "wood-blocks purchased at a curiosity shop for 2d. each", plus Gill's Press device to the lower cover and one by Pepler's son David (aged 10½). The publisher's note tipped inside the upper cover features a further woodcut by Ronald Seal (aged 11½). As well as St. George, two stories by Pepler's sons are featured. Taylor & Sewell A2. No limitation noted, but as only the second book printed by Pepler it must be decidedly scarce.

[French Geological Survey], 1914.. Map dimensions 53 x 85 cm, overall 62 x 118 cm. Large folding colour printed geological map of this French region, scientific text to both side margins with a colour key to the right, dissected into 27 sections and mounted on linen, original French mapseller's label to one panel of the linen verso also featuring a small contemporary Edward Stanford's label, another of which has been affixed to the lower margin of the map. Very good. First published in 1898, this is the second edition. Sheet 4 of the "Carte Géologique Detaillée de la France"

Doyly Carte to the front free endpaper. 4 colour plates, black and white illustrations throughout. No. 4 in the Angler's Library series. The ownership inscription is that of the Rupert D'Oyly Carte, son of the music impresario Richard.

1875-1895.. 8vo. Contemporary maroon half morocco over brown cloth sides, gilt ruled compartments to the spine, lettered to two panels, early ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. Wear to the spine ends with slight loss, a little rubbing to the other extremities, some mottling to the boards which also show some wear, else in decent condition. Professor at the Royal College of Science and one of the most respected men in his field, Judd edited editions of Lyell and had contributed Introductions to Darwin's "...Coral Reefs". He is probably best known for his work on volcanoes.

The supplied jacket is slightly too tall for the book and, thus, is edge worn and with losses, the book itself very good.
