Documenting some of the earliest New York graffiti artists (like the legendary Taki 183), FAITH captures the writers just before the Wild Style generation. While largely anthropological in its approach, Kurlandky and Naar's photography clearly paved the way for Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant's more more intimate work in SUBWAY ART a decade later. (Hollywood, CA): (Heavy Industry Publications), 1971. Fine. Signed first edition of Ruscha's fourteen spare, black and white photographs of California palms, each captioned with its home address. A FEW PALM TREES was one of three books Ruscha published in 1971 (the others were DUTCH DETAILS and RECORDS) and grew out of an unrealized idea for a book called SEVENTEEN HOLLYWOOD PALM TREES. It was followed the next year by his neon-bright COLORED PEOPLE, another plant photo series. Pressed for insight by Clive Phillpot, Ruscha said in 1998: "I guess at that time I was more involved in botanical phenomena [...] I thought, well, this is something I should maybe investigate." 7'' x 5.5''.
