Lima, Peru, April 22, 1830. Oblong 8vo (6 x 8 inches), partly printed form with ms insertions, printed recto only, with engraved vignette of a woman playing a keyboard instrument at head, signed in type by Planel and with his ms flourish; some light crinkling and foxing Rare ephemera documenting an early opera performance in South America by European performers, a receipt for four performances delivered at Lima starting on May 8, 1830. The performances were part of a South American tour by Italian opera singers Teresa Schieroni, Margherita Garavaglia, Domingo Pizzoni, Giacomo Bettali and Mayorga and the Uruguayan violinist, conductor and composer Louis Theophile Planel (who acknowledges receipt of one ounce of gold from a Señor Daliphar). Numerous illustrations and plans to text, 1 large folding plan and 1 folding chart. 118 pp. Publisher's blind- and gilt-decorated cloth, beveled edges; slight fading to cloth American residential landscape gardening at the turn of the previous century by the English landscape architect Joseph Forsyth Johnson (1840-1906). Before emigrating to America, Johnson was the Curator of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Belfast and operated a landscape gardening business in London. His first book, Natural Principles of Landscape Gardening, was published in Belfast in 1874. Johnson emigrated to America in 1885 where he continued his landscape practice; he was briefly superintendent of horticulture for Brooklyn's Prospect Park.The present work, with many useful illustrations throughout, is divided into three sections: the residential site, planting and introduction to undulations, and villa gardens and public grounds.

[Boston]: Printed for the proprietors [by Samuel Etheridge], 1800. 8vo. 34 pp. Contemporary sheep; upper board detached, ffep removed, in a custom chemise and slipcase. Scarce American price book for Boston carpenters, in contemporary sheep. Signed, as usual, by Thomas Stutson, secretary of the committee that drew up the rules, which were devised to establish a fair system of charges for services rendered. Prices are an early example of the use of dollars and cents.
