Boulder, CO: Rodent Press, 1994. First Edition. One of 200 copies. Slim octavo (21.75cm); original letterpress printed card wrappers, stapled; [6],7-28,[4]pp; illus. Signed by Waldman and Schelling on the title page, inscribed directly above by Waldman to Kenward Elmslie: "For Kenward / with love." A Fine copy of this brief collection of poems based on ancient Buddhist texts, several of which first appeared in the pages of Denver Quarterly, Shambhala Sun, Cottonwood, and Tricycle. A nice association between two prominent New York School figures.

Odd format Olympia Press edition of Genet's 1947 novel Querelle de Brest, centered around bisexual thief, prostitute, and serial killer Georges Querelle. Basis for Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1982 film of the same name, starring Brad Davis and Jean Moreau. Kearney 13. Octavo (19.25cm); glossy photo-illustrated boards; [6],7-399,[1]pp; text is entirely in German, with rear pastedown bearing the printed notice "Verkauf in Deutschland Untersagt" ("Selling in Germany Prohibited"). Pinpoint wear to extremities, hint of foxing to text edges, with some mild laminate lift to upper front joint, and lower right corner of front board gently tapped (though still sharp); Near Fine, without dustjacket, as issued.

Contents are comprised of two long pieces: "The Question of Our Speech," an address to the graduating class of Bryn Mawr College on June 8, 1905 (it first appeared in the August, 1905 issue Appleton's Booklovers Magazine), and "The Lesson of Balzac," first published in the Atlantic Monthly (August, 1905). Octavo (19.5cm); greyish-green paper-covered boards and pale yellow cloth backstrip, with printed title label mounted to spine; original dustjacket with yapped edges; [vi],[2],3-115,[3]pp. A fresh, Fine copy in Very Good dustjacket, gently spine-sunned and lightly dust-soiled, with shallow losses to spine ends and corners, a deeper chip to upper rear panel, with several tiny tears and attendant creases.

Contains Bukowski's uncollected poem "the courage is the sun," alongside works by John Fowler, Les Standiford, Terrance Withers, Rochelle Holt, Gerald Locklin, Douglas Blazek, Lyn Lyfshin, and others. Not uncommon institutionally, but seldom found in the trade. Oblong quarto (21.5cm); offset printed sheets, side-stapled into illustrated covers, with spine bound in dark brown fabric tape; [ii],74,[4]pp; illus. Light wear to extremities, strip of dust-soil along upper edge of front wrapper, with a few faint splash marks affecting rear wrapper; scattered check marks and brief holograph notes in pencil and felt-tipped pen in an undetermined hand; Very Good+.

Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY & Devonshire, England: Quixote, 1960. First Editions. Complete run of this magazine produced by author, editor, and educator Jean Rikhoff (1926-2018), who sought during six turbulent years to publish "a true "literary" magazine - NOT the academic journal or the psuedo-sophisticated slick, but a magazine which presents real information and ideas on all aspects of the arts" (More Troubles of a Small Magazine, p.1). Rikhoff claimed that the 50s had become an era of resurrecting and re-examining the shadows of Joyce, Kafka, Melville, Fitzgerald, and other fashionable names, and that nobody, especially magazines, gave new writers a chance anymore. "The plain statement of why and how we started QUIXOTE might read something like this: we believed that a new magazine was needed and we started one." Madison, WI: Quixote Press, 1972. Second Edition. Attractive portfolio of levy's work, which he produced during a one month stint in October, 1968 as the "Free University Poet-in-Residence" at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Two editions of the portfolio were assembled and produced by levy's friends and fellow poets, the first in 1969, and this edition in 1972, both containing a different series of collages and inserts in varying sizes. Together with The Buddhist Third Class Junkmail Oracle, an underground newspaper he produced, the Madison Poems and collages remains one of the best representations of his prowess as a visual artist.
