Full brown morocco, lined; spine gilt with raised bands, double gilt fillet on the leading edges; guilloched havana morocco lining, blind stamped, and with gilt fillets and garlands (later Spanish binding, circa 1950?). Precious edition of this collection of liturgical cants being sung during the processions of the Spanish Cistiercians. Printed in Zaragoza, it includes the noted music and can be considered the first complete edition of the Cistercian processional, since the only earlier known publication is a 64-pages booklet printed in the same city in 1516. The processionals are liturgical books which include the lyrics and music of the songs being sung during the religious processions: mostly "responses", anthems, and hymns. This political project to combat begging, written in the form of a dialogue, was published at the same time as other works on the same subject (such as Turmeau de la Morandière's "Police sur les Mendians"). In addition to the original nature of its proposals, which included the imprisonment of beggars, its particularity lies in the fact that it was written by Sidoine Séguier de Saint-Brisson (1738-1773), a young cavalry captain who was one of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's most exalted disciples. Such was his adoration for the philosopher that he came to want to apply his precepts to the letter, and entered into a regular correspondence with Rousseau that more than once embarrassed the master in the face of his panegyrist's excessive zeal. First Edition of this erotic novel telling the lesbian love of its protagonist Pierrette, who appeared later in two other novels which complete, along with the present one, the triology of "Modern Eva". Antoine Reschal was one of the pseudonyms of Charles Arnaud (1874-1935), a novelist and free-thinker who wrote several "liberal" books dedicated to female homosexuality and erotism in general, before dedicating himself to the thriller genre in which he also gave a central position to his female characters. Paris, 1739. Folio. Fine folding engraved key map, and 20 double-page engraved sheets that combine to make one exceptionally large plan of Paris. Full marbled calf, spine with raised bands, gilt lace around the covers with the gilt arms of the city of Paris in their center (fresh contemporary binding). Beautiful copy, perfectly preserved and complete, of one of the most famous and spectacular graphic representations of the city of Paris. It was made between 1734 and 1739 by Louis Bretez at the request of Michel Etienne Turgot (1690-1751), provost of the merchants of the capital. In his functions, Turgot took care of cleaning up and embellishing Paris, had a huge sewer built on the right bank of the Seine, widened and extended the Quai de l'Horloge, endeavored to make reign the abundance in the years of scarcity and rendered the greatest services (see Larousse).

Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, Carlo Buragna (1634-1679) was a remarkable figure of "scholarly libertinism" in Italy in the 17th century. Versed in mathematics, geometry and philosophy, he became interested in the ideas of Galileo and Gassendi, and contributed to the founding in Naples of the Accademia degli Investiganti. This learned society was one of the first Italian assemblies of its kind. Of antiaristotelian inspiration, its members studied philosophical and scientific innovations from abroad, assimilated the positions of metaphysical materialism and advocated, in particular, on the literary level, the return to Petrarch's poetic purity. Nearly three thousand authors are quoted, listed in alphabetical order by first name. François Grudé, Sieur de la Croix du Maine (1552-1592) was from Le Mans. Coming from a wealthy family, he had begun to assemble a vast library from the age of seventeen, with the aim of compiling a more complete bibliography than that of Gessner (1555) which only listed works in Greek or in Latin.
