With title and 4 lines of text. Appears to be oval portrait of Cupid shooting an arrow, with wonderful floral borders. Mounted at corners to larger plain leaf. A stunning piece. Most suitable for framing. Unidentified work.

Browning, occasional damp stain. Engraved t.p. Cureau (1594-1675), French popularizing author, academician and physician to Louis XIII, was a protege of Seguier. One of the first to write of scientific and philosophical subjects in French, he produced works on chiromancy, on light and rainbows, on the passions, on the system of the soul, and on the question of rationality in animals. Two newspaper clippings freely laid in back relating to he Duchess of La Valiere. Small library plate to inside front board. At time of description we locate no other copies of this edition as well as no other books signed by the Countess. Illustrates young Russian shepherd playing mandolin for a young couple sitting next to him, a dog and some sheep at their feet. Scarce print, at time of description we locate no copies for sale and only a few citations of reference. Gaillard (ca.1719-1790), French engraver. Le Prince (1734-1781), French painter, star pupil of the great painter Francois Boucher (1703-1770). Complete in itself as volume one. Priced to go. The Lancet was founded by surgeon Thomas Wakley in 1823. It quickly became Englands leading medical journal. Containing transcripts of medical lectures news and details of noteworthy cases. Here in our 1843 copy we find numerous interesting and wonderous articles and findings. A great read for the curious and odd findings in early 1800s medicine and practice.
