Folio. 480 x 405 mm., [19 x 16 inches]. Printed index of plates followed by 12 chromolithographic images after original drawings by L. K. Harlow. Each image is mounted to a cardboard mat, 11 of which have lithographic vignettes in the lower corner of the mat. Deluxe Edition, numbered "79". Sold by Subscription Only.
Each image is preceded by a tissue with the title of plate printed; some of the tissues are creased and chipped at the out edges. Each plate is signed by Harlow in pencil and a few are signed in the plate; the images are clean and bright, but the mats show some toning, and a few have minor chips to the edges. The folio plates are housed in a folding portfolio, the spine and flaps are worn and probably should be discarded.
Scarce portfolio of Civil War paintings by the noted Boston artist Louis Kinney Harlow. Harlow was noted for his water color illustrations that were used to illustrate scores of books and which keep the printer Louis Prang very busy in the 1880's and 1890's.… Leer más

The work is organized in three parts; first a discussion of etymology of the word "paradise" and how it was used by Christian scholars over the centuries. Folio.  435 x 320 mm., [17 x 12 ½  inches]; image size 320 x 230 mm., [12 ½ x 10 inches].  Color lithographic portrait, printed in black ink and hand colored in two colors and highlights of black.  Some light discoloration to margins, otherwise a very good copy with strong color. Fine designed and executed lithographic political portrait of Johnson, highlighted with delicate rendering of the hair, eyes and beard.  It was printed by Currier & Ives, the partnership which Nathaniel Currier formed with James Merritt Ives in 1857.  Currier was in charge of the lithographic presses and all the production values and Ives was the bookkeeper and accountant who modernize the financial side to the business and had a keen sense of the market and the public taste for prints. Fred Harvey is a legend in the tourist business throughout the western states. His hotel El Tovar at the edge of Grand Canyon, is one of the most visited sites in Arizona. First printed in 1908 and reprinted with different photographic techniques for decades, this photo album containing 18 colored photos is a souvenir publication illustrating the magnificent views of the Grand Canyon Region. Attractive campaign lithographic portrait of Henry Clay printed by Nathaniel Currier at his studio on Spruce Street.   It is distinguished by its finely delineated facial features and the upright posture of the sitter which gives a sense of power and authority to the figure.  It is probably based on a portrait in oil by John B. Neagle painted in 1842 and sometimes to referred to "Gallant Harry". Folded, with old paper repairs to body of the sheet and recent expert tissue repairs to the center fold and edges. No watermark discernable. Rare edition of an example of a German language Himmelsbriefe which is a letter from God to his people about keeping the sabbath and commandments. Although the imprint of Magdeburg, 1783 is apocryphal, this text has its origins in the late Middle Ages and the earliest known printed example appeared in Munich around 1500. The earliest known example from Pennsylvania was printed by George Hohmann in 1802. Some of the known copies of these "heaven-letters" have information on the printer, but this example has no imprint information. Illustrated with 15 woodcuts and short descriptions of domesticated animals such as the horse, the cow, and various breeds of dogs. Previous owner's name written on title page. Edges a bit worn and toned. Cover partially separated but still attached. Publisher Mahlon Day printed books in New York City from 1816 to 1844. Starting around 1822 he began to publish little children's books, such as this one, for which he is best known. Orig. printed wrappers; some light soling and minor wear; sound and attractive copy.   Scarce genealogy of a pioneering family in Illinois.  The family hailed from New Hampshire. The plates include a coat of arms, three finely rendered views (after photographs?) of the "family mansion" and two other homesteads in New Hampshire, and an excellent group portrait of the compiler and five siblings: Jonas C.; Samuel P.; Ebenezer; Lewis C.; and Elizabeth. Julius B. Champney (b. 1811) immigrated to Illinois in 1855. At the time of the 1860 census he resides in Peru, southwest of Chicago and by 1870 had moved to Macoupin, Ill., northeast of St. Louis.   Ante-Fire Imprints 1139. Sabin 11846.

Illustrated with an image of Fitch's boat the Perseverance in the upper right, Robert Fulton's Clermont in the upper left, and an image of Fitch's drawing of his Model Boat made in 1797. The broadside is folded, with wrinkles at the center fold, a small piece is missing from the upper right corner, a few tears at right margin; some insignificant water staining at right margin, otherwise sound and attractive.A rare testimonial broadside, written by John Hutchings, who participated as a young boy in the launch of John Fitch's steam powered boat in the Collect Pond in New York City in 1846.
