Colorado Springs: Press at Colorado College, 1991. A book of dramatic black and white photographs documenting a 4,000 mile sea voyage from the port of Punta Arenas, Chile on the Strait of Magellan, to the Falkland Islands, then on to Antarctica and finishing the first stage at Tierra del Fuego. In the second stage the ship sailed up the western coast of Chile and ended the voyage at Valdivia, Chile. 28 black and white photographs of both ice formations and dramatic stopping points on the voyage by Stuart D. Klipper are tipped in to the pages, which bear appropriate texts from the ship's logs written by the skipper Warren Brown. Poems by the Irish ice-sailor John Gore Grimes complement the logs. The text was typeset by computer and printed letterpress using polymer plates. The fine silk-like fabric binding and slipcase were made by Greg Campbell at the Campbell-Logan Bindery. A memorial volume dedicated to Bertha S. Goudy. Also, as Peter Beilenson wrote in his foreword,"Two of the contributors to this memorial to Berrtha Goudy are themselves only memories now. Perhaps the last set piece George Macy wrote and the last piece Bruce Rogers wrote and designed, were written for this book. Just in time they added these last bits to the mosaic of memories." Macy's account of a visit to the Goudys and his encounter with her houseful of birds is hilarious, and expressed his own sense of humor and ability to chuckle at his own foibles. Overall, the vignettes lovingly characterize one of the finest periods of American printing.

Near fine, with a very slightly bumped corner and very slight wrinkles of the otherwise near fine dust jacket.

Half oasis with hand marbled paper covered boards by Faith Harrison, cloth covered slip case lined in ultrasuede. Type set at the Anthoenson Press, and printed by them, the Heritage Printers, and Wild Carrot Letterpress. Bound by Denis Gouey. Books listed in chronological order by series, cross-indexed by title, author, illustrator, printer, binder, designer, and typefaces, as in the original Quarto-Millenary. Fabric covered boards with a tan background and blue design elegantly done with a bird and her nest in a flowering tree, marbled end papers, unpaginated. One of an edition limited to 90 copies signed by Nicholas and Mary Parry, using colored Lino prints to illustrate this book. The poet loved exactitude, which is demonstrated in his beautifully rhythmical poetry. Fine condition.

One of 375 numbered copies signed by the artist, John Hejduk. Illustrated with lithographs in color, very geometrical in nature. Striking in its use of Monotype Gill Sans by Dan Carr and Julia Ferrari of Golgonooza Letter Foundry.

New York: de Vinne Press, 1893. D. B. Updike. Large paper copy of the Book of Common Prayer printed in black and red on American hand-made paper at the de Vinne Press for the Committee. D. B. Updike designed the plan of symbolism and method of decoration of the total edition, of which the complementary and subscription copies have foliated borders. Laid in is a notice from the Sub-Commmittee on Printing describing the required distribution of the various copies of the book and Updike's explanation of the inspiration for the design of the decorated copies. The official copies are printed with plain margins, and the complimentary and subscription copies have the foliated borders designed by Updike. According to Updike, while the decoration of such a book is inspired by the example of Medieval manuscripts, the use of modern typefaces obviates the elaborate designs of those volumes. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1903. First Edition thus. A collection of articles on various aspects of bookbinding by the foremost turn of the century woman bookbinder. Number 314 of 500, half vellum with light blue paper covered sides, teg, dj, printed by Giliss Press. Book is fine, with slight sunning along the edges of the binding. The dust jacket has been repaired neatly, has splits along several folds, and has a couple of minor chips missing. The dust jacket is well supported in its clear plastic covering.

Six stories by Hurston selected by the artist Betye Saar, who also wrote the Afterword. Each of the stories is illustrated with a multi-colored serigraph of original collages. In addition to these, the artist also chose the hand-made paper, made of cotton and cinnamon; the deep brown ink; and the half deep-brown morocco binding with the sides covered in a paper made from cork. The typography was designed, composed, and printed by Dan Carr and Julia Ferrari at Golgonooza Letter Foundry and Press. The paper was hand-made by Langdell Paper, East Topsham, Vermont. Drexel Press printed the serigraphs. The book was bound by Carol Joyce. The solander box is covered in a deep brown slubbed fabric and lined in UltraSuede. One of 300 copies signed by Betye Saar. Claremont, CA: Scripps College Press, 2005. As new, enclosed in protective clear plastic bag, signed by Kitty Maryat's students. Beautiful fan-fold book bound in boards covered in a simple black abstract design with tones of silver, small stars glued on or cut out from the front and rear pastedowns, colorful ribbon tie attached. Inner pages are a wonderful mix of cutouts, popups, paste-ins of various materials all assembled in a delightfully madcap way. One of the most clever of the creations of Maryat's students. Spring 2005 publication in Sixty over Thirty.
