All but a dozen photos with period ink captions on the mounts (some captions relate to several photos, some photos are also dated in ink). Period brown quarter sheep album with cloth boards. Binding rubbed on extremities, the boards with scratches, mounts slightly soiled and waved, a few photos mildly faded, but overall a very good album of interesting photos. Late 19th century Ottoman dark green quarter morocco with decorative stamped pebble cloth boards and gilt lettered title on the spine; marbled endpapers. Binding slightly rubbed on extremities, paper slightly age toned, otherwise a very good copy.“Ravzat ül-ebrar” is an important example of an Islamic overview of world history, popular in the 17th century Ottoman Empire. The title and legend in the left lower corner; names of the contributors (topographers Mokeyev, Tenzin, Stepanov, Egorov, Ivanov, & others) on the lower margin. Period ink stamp of “Bookshop of Aug. Deibner, St. Petersburg, Nevsky Prospect, 13” in the left lower corner; two upper corners with small metal pins for hanging. A couple of period markings on the linen on verso. Original publisher’s brown cloth binding with blind stamped title on the front board and the spine. Binding with cracks on hinges, neatly repaired, occasional wormholes and water stains in the outer corners of some pages, but overall a very good copy.The book offers an interesting insight to Afghanistan and its politics during the last year of reign of a western-oriented Amanullah Khan (in power in 1919-29) from the point of view of its non-British neighbours. Katrak travelled to Kabul by car from Peshawar via Khyber Pass and Jalalabad in August 1928 to take part in the celebrations of the Afghanistan Independence Day (the date was set up to commemorate the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919). Fold marks, the lower right blank corner of the second leaf is torn off (not affecting any text); overall a very good letter.Interesting Klondike Gold Rush-era private letter. The author, one “W.W. Kennedy,” wrote to his “Dear Old Mother” (“Mrs. William Kennedy, Whippleville, New York”) on the stationery of Juneau’s well-known “Circle City Hotel” (built by Lockie MacKinnon and George Miller on Third Street in 1895-96, demolished in 1924). Ocatvo (ca. 20,5 x12,5 cm). 2 pp. on bifolium. Black ink on blue laid paper. Fold marks but overall a very good letter, written in a legible hand. A historically important original autograph manuscript letter by M. H. Kolloch regarding his discovery of gold at the once thriving mining camp and now-abandoned community of Brownsville, California. The author, apparently a geologist, mine surveyor, or engineer, wrote this letter on his way from the gold mining district of Fairplay (Colorado Territory) to Paradise Valley (Arizona Territory) on 14 October 1866. In the text addressed to his colleague G. W. A couple of minor repaired tears on the extremities, a minor water stain on the lower margin, but overall a very good strong impression of this copper engraving.Plate XXVIII from the famous Russian edition of the atlas to Adam von Krusenstern’s circumnavigation in 1803-1806 (Atlas k Puteshestviiu Kapitana Krusensterna. SPb, 1813). Published on the funds of the Russian Imperial Cabinet, the atlas became one of the most luxurious Russian editions of the early 19th century.
