The sonnet appeared in 1816 in the Examiner and it raised immediate interest towards his work, even though the poet himself believed his work had no impact on his contemporaries during his lifetime.O Solitude is a sonnet, but nor in the purely Petrarchan, neither in the entirely Shakespearean sense, providing more of a blend of the two.
