With 30 colour plates with tissue guards illustrating 58 species. There are some occasional spots of light foxing to the text pages, the plates are bright and fine. A sound copy of this classic work in an elegant binding.

Small folio. Pp. xii + 72. Contemporary half red morrocco, gilt titles. T.e.g. A split between the top board and the spine has been repaired and the front hinge is loose. With a frontispiece portrait of Bewick by J.E. Millais., 16 full-page colour plates (chromolithographs), 18 tinted autotypes and 31 woodcuts. Some very faint spotting to the endpapers and a little to the title page, otherwise clean internally.

The second edition. 4to. Pp. xxviii + 476. Original illustrated cloth, spine ends frayed and corners rubbed. Endpapers spotted and some very minor spotting to the title page. Illustrated by Charles Whymper with 40 fine chromolithographs + one plate (the Turtle Dove) which is screen printed. The plates are all fine.

With 5 tipped-in colour plates from paintings by the author and 43 high quality plates from his own black & white photographs. The book is aranged in four parts, About Eagles, Wester Ross, the Cairngorms, and Argyll. Privately published in 1989, only 100 copies of the Golden Eagle were bound, most of these were given away as presents. Adrian Wilkins, the son of the author has had a further 100 copies bound from the original material, and these are now offered for sale. They are only available through Isabelline Books.
