Tiraboschi (1731 - 1794) produced 13 volumes of his Storia della letterature italiana, covering the origin and development of literature and the sciences from Etruscan times to 1700; an erudite and learned scholar, he was a bit long-winded, and Landi"s abridgment has much to recommend it. See Bohn's Guinea Catalogue note to # 6452 "The Storia della Letteratura Italiana of the immortal Tiraboschi cannot fail to be admitted into every judicious library, however vast or confined. Amiens, Caron-Vitet, n.d. (beginning nineteenth century, circa 1820). 117, (iii) pp. Original paper binding. (some browning). (binding a bit rubbed & damaged).A very interesting and unusual specimen of an (early?) nineteenth century binding in paper that imitates a leather binding. In the back of the book we find a list of 'Livres ... reliés en basane artificielle...' with their prices (1 page) as well as a one page list of other books available. Caron-Vitet was active in Amiens as a publisher, printer, type founder and stationer.

Of the 1875 copies printed, 500 were for sale. This is number 521. Work on the Bruce Rogers World Bible lasted over four years.
