No. 29/160 numbered copies! Contains an alphabetical an a chronological list of all the printers that have worked in Troyes between 1483 and 1789. Not in Bigmore & Wyman.

Paris, Jean de Heuqueville, 1609. 489 pp. Original vellum binding decorated in a geometrical pattern in ink by Bedigis. (size c. 11 x 18 x 6 cm). (bottom of spine very slightly dam.). Ex-libris of the calligrapher on the inside front cover: "Bédigis à Paris". And with dedication by the author on the titlepage: "Ex dono Authoris / A Monsieur l'Archevêque de Tours". The first word of the title "Receuil" is written in black ink and substitutes part of the original title which must have read "Second volume" as this is the second volume of a series of books by Servin but they were all published separately and with many years between them.Louis Servin (1555 - 1626) was a French magistrate. In 1589, as France was being devastated by the civil war, Henri III chose to make Tours the capital of his kingdom. 1667. No place, 1667. Titlepage, (iii),293pp. Contemporary mottled calf (bottom of spine damaged). A nice wide-margined copy of this work. The War of Devolution (1667–1668) saw Louis XIV's French armies overrun the Hapsburg controlled Spanish Netherlands. Louis's claims to the Spanish Netherlands were tenuous. His wife, Maria Theresa, the daughter of Philip IV, had renounced her rights of a Spanish inheritance in return for a large dowry at the time of her marriage. The dowry had yet to be paid, however. When Philip died in 1665, Louis' lawyers justified Louis's possible claims by arguing that, while Spanish laws of succession meant the throne of Philip IV would pass to his son Charles II, ancient laws of Duchy of Brabant ruled that the Spanish Netherlands could "devolve" to Philip's daughter from his first marriage, Louis's wife. Collation: Halftitle, Avis au Lecteur, Title, 1 (1 unnumbered) 2 - 33, (2 unnumbered), 34 - 43, [43 but misnumbered should be 44], 45 - 57, (2 unnumbered), 58 - 62, [65 but misnumbered should be 63], 64 - 73, 78, 79, (1 unnumbered but should be numbered 76), 77, 74 - 75, 80 - 81, 86 - 87, 84 - 85, 82 - 83, 88. Original paper wrappers (a bit worn). Halftitle duststained, title and a few pages with some waterstaining, last 4 ff with waterstain in the margin, otherwise a good copy with large margins (page size 12 x 19) especially large lower margin. One of the many variant editions of this popular work. The present copy says Paris on the title page but the address has been mostly erased - before printing - so this is probably a pirated copy (?). The first issue appeared in December 1878. The last one in December 1881. It seems that this was all published. Each monthly issue consisted of a small catalogue of books available at the bookshop of J. Chollet, augmented with a few short articles on bookish subjects. Woodcuts by Nicholas Parry, printed in Old Style on Medway paper and bound at the Tern Press by Nicholas and Mary Parry. Of eighty copies printed this is number 35, signed by the author and the illustrator.The Exeter Book riddles are a fragmentary collection of verse riddles in Old English found in the later tenth-century anthology of Old English poetry known as the Exeter Book. The riddles are varied in theme and represent the familiar, material world from an oblique angle.
