Red morocco, double gilt fillet and border around the covers, gilt pomegranate fleurons in the center and at the corners, restored flat spine decorated in the same way, blue endpapers, gilt edges. Eighteenth century binding.
First edition of Ptolemy's geography edited by Michael Servetus in Lyons in 1535.

The brothers Melchior and Gaspard Trechsel, booksellers and printers from Lyons who were active between 1530 and 1540, bought the woodcuts of Grüninger's Ptolemy and began to produce a new edition. The text was established by Michel Servet (Villanovanus), from the translation of Pirckheimer.
