Kyiv, 1941. Very good. Together 2 views (205 x 325 mm; 8" x 13") printed on cheap, thin paper (Ad 1: long closed tear through image without loss, light staining creasing, edges a little frayed; Ad 2: short closed tears along edges, two small holes in blank area at lower left, light staining). Overall in very condition, suitable for exhibition and study. Tragically topical, apparently unrecorded views of Kyiv, being rude field printings on cheap paper, likely created by Nazis during the so-called "First Battle" of Kiev (Aug. 23 - Sept. 26, 1941) or shortly thereafter. We are mindful that the present views are historically "toxic," but given the context of the current Russian war-crimes against the people of the Ukraine, we believe that there is an urgent need for them to be preserved. The first print is a view of Kyiv looking at the city center from the south, specifically from the wooded hill of Lysa Hora which had a complex fortification system. During the German occupation the fort became a…

Toronto, Canada: Harbinger Magazine, 1969. First Edition. Fair. Large folio (445 x 290 mm) printed on cheap newsprint (browned and brittle, soiled along horizontal fold, a few short tears). [16] pp. of collages and texts, printed "head-over-heels" so that there are in fact two covers: "Mrclean's - A Harbinger Supplement" and "Eat Shit Magazine - Premier Issue." Preserved in a mylar L-sleeve with lig-free support board. BAFFLING AND INSCRUTABLE CANADIAN HIPPY (YIPPY?) 'ZINE. At it was printed on cheap newsprint in July of 1969, we are not surprised that no other copy can be located. The entire publication is irreverent and anti-establishment, created entirely from diverse collages, "artwork," dubious humor, and odd and unrelated texts. Certainly it ranks low in the many rank 'zines we have encountered, but it has its charm, but moreover it provides information to Toronto hippies about drug prices, a "Freek (sic) Out" in Queen's Park, Toronto, an Ottowa "Be-In," locations of free V.D. clinics in…

Munich: E. Stahl, 1861. First Edition. Very good. 8vo. xiv, 424 pp. Original quarter sheep (leather suffed but the binding is perfectly sound; extremities worn). Contemporary inscription on title-page: "H.D. Tuncker, Ep. Altonensis" (i.e. Altona, outside Hamburg). NOT ex-library! SCARCE TREATISE ON MARRIAGE, "ADAPTED FOR THE USE OF AMERICAN CLERGYMEN," WRITTEN BY AN EARLY GERMAN EMIGRANT TO WISCONSIN. ONE COPY IN AMERICA LOCATED. From the Preface, we learn that the work "is intended primarily for missionary priests who perform the care of souls in these American provinces [...]. For this reason I have not only explained in more detail the individual impediments of marriage in the second and third tract, but also through many practical questions which occurred to me, especially those which are peculiar to the condition of this region [i.e. America]. To the same end, in the fourth treatise, a further distinction is made concerning the dispensation of impediments and the revalidation of marriage…

Wilmington, DE: Printed for John Boggs, Jun. by Bonsai and Niles, 1801. First Edition. Good. 8vo. xx, 390 pp. Text foxed and brown as commonly. Contemporary Wilmington binding by Taylor & Andrews (signed with their letterpress ticket): tree sheep, smooth spined panelled in five compartments, gilt red morocco label in the second, edges plain, pair of binder's blanks at the front (those at the back torn away). Front joint split, board almost detached, extremities rubbed and worn. Preserved in a protective cloth case. The binders Taylor and Andrews of Wilmington, DE remain completely unrecorded in the standard sources, and it would appear that no bindings by them are located in AAS, Bryn Mawr, UDel, Winterthur, or anywhere else for that matter. Of this edition of "Lectures on Primitive Christianity," the List of Subscribers (p. xvii) records "Taylor and Andrews, Wilmington" having subscribed for 50 copies (!), easily eclipsing all other orders. With some effort we have discovered in the Maryland State…
