Two pages, about 350 words (including cross-outs), written by Dante Gabriel Rossetti on a single octavo sheet, in pencil by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, comprising a draft of a letter in Rossetti's hand, to Hall Caine (Sir Thomas Henry Hall Caine) with significant original material, cross-outs, additions and deletions, not appearing in the final published poem, as given in Fredeman's "Correspondences (80.103). AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF A DRAFT LETTER, ALMOST NEVER SEEN BY ROSSETTI, AND OFFERING SIGNIFICANT AND INTERESTING BACK-VIEW OF THE POET/ARTIST'S THINKING. The letter was first alluded to in Hall Caine's "Recollections of Dante Gabriel Rossetti," first published by Eliot Stock, in London, 1882, where Caine states concerning this letter, "The extract from Rossetti's letters with which I shall close this chapter is perhaps the most interesting yet made." Holograph poem manuscript by Eugene Field of ìJapanese Lullabyî (25 lines), with corrections and deletions, on two pages. (35.5 x 29.5 cm.) Wonderfully bound (circa 1910) in full blue crushed morocco by the famed Monastery Hill Bindery, featuring superb gilt rulings and clusters of floral bouquets and inlaid red petals at all four corners on both covers, wide gilt dentelles and gorgeous silk moirÈ blue doublures. In a royal blue two-part morocco slipcase, with gilt spine. This is the original holograph of the popular poem by Eugene Field (ìThe Children's Poet,î 1850-1895), written by him in pencil (ca. 1889) on lined paper, with underlines and corrections. 95% of the poem is as it appears in the published version (see below), but fascinating additions and deletions reveal the thought process of the poet. 1919. Offered here are six original pen and drawings by CHARLES FOLKARD, noted British book illustrator and later comic book creator and illustrator; his "Teddy Tail's" series, one of the earliest and longest running British newspaper comics. As one might expect, some of the most renowned (as these) were assembled into book form, and this one appeared in 1919 published in London by A & C. Various sizes: the cover illustration, most notably, being the largest, 12 x 9 inches, with red watercolor painted in on the title and author credit, as well as on the trousers of the official and the vest of the mouse, both as they appear on the cover of the book--and all details (except for a few color highlights added by the publisher) are identical as they appear on the cover. The other seven drawings are about 5 x 7 inches, two on artboard are mounted, and four on paper. 1911. Offered here are six original pen and drawings by CHARLES FOLKARD, noted British book illustrator remembered for his endearing illustrations in a number of children's books in the early 1900's. Te drawings are from the popular book, "Grimm's Fairy Tales, With and Introduction by Charles Ruskin," published in London by Adam & Charles Black, in 1911. Four are mounted on artboard, and two on paper. There are three large drawings (about 12 x 8 inches), and three smaller (about 5 x 10 inches, i.e. oblong). Most notably, the title-page, contents page, and illustration page all appear in the larger format with copious line drawings, lettering and framing design elements. With pencil notations including: "From Chas. J. Folkard, Nottingham, Kent/ for Folkard's Edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales," appearing on the verso of every drawing, (with Court Farm Lane added in some). All in very good condition with usual wear attending art that has traveled to and from publishers. A scarce grouping.

This is the third edition in English for this title with 85 engravings by Eisen. This is Copy #69 of the first 100 printed (1-50 on china paper, and 51-100 on Japan Vellum), thus one of only fifty of the Japan Vellum issue. Overall very well-preserved, with minor wear to corners. one volume scuffed lower board. Very good. Scarce.

Edinburgh: Archibald Constable and Co, 1820. First edition. First edition. Superb early 19th Century binding, in original full straight grained full leather. All edges gilt, and a superior example of a Georgian extra gilt binding. An exquisite fore edge painting by Martin Frost featuring a painting of Scottís portrait, flanked by views of Melrose Abbey, his home Abbotsbury and all set into a frame with Scottish thistle motifs. Monogrammed by Frost with his authenticity ticket tipped in. Minor scuffs and speckling, a very good tight copy.

Attractively bound in full crushed maroon morocco with central armorial gilt design on both covers, five raised bands on spine with lettering in Arts and Crafts motif. With a gorgeous fore-edge painting by Martin Frost of "The Creation," by Edward Burne-Jones and a handwritten note by Frost regarding the painting. Book and fore-edge are fine. A truly exquisite Pre-Raphaelite fore-edge painting.

A superb fore edge painting by Martin Frost featuring a portrait of the young Dickens with illustrations from each of the titles, monogrammed by Martin Frost with his authenticity ticket tipped in. Very slight nick to fore-edge, else fine.
