Douglas Southall Freeman was Churchill's guide to the battlefields of the Civil War during Churchill's visit in 1929. His biography of Lee was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1934. The text is an edited transcript of a series of interviews with two friends of Lenkiewicz. Square quarto. Original illustrated wrappers, titles to front covers and spine in white. With 42 colour plates including the covers after paintings by Lenkiewicz. Edges rubbed and corners lightly creased.

Archontologia Cosmica., 1649. A lovely view of the small city of Rapperswil on Lake Zurich. Three coats of arms at top centre, including two of the city's coats of arms showing two roses on each. Compass in bottom left corner. Principle buildings are picked out within the view by letter with a corresponding key along the bottom. Fishing boats and a sailing ship on the lake in foreground, moutain ranges in background. Copper engraving. Uncoloured. In very good condition, despite a couple of very small rust spots. Size: 320 x 210 mm. (12½ x 8½ inches)

Voyage Pittoresque de la Grece. Paris., 1782. A striking scene showing the author's own reception in the palatial home of Hassan Tchaousch-Oglou. The host and his son sit imposingly beside their two guests, in a raised part of the room. They are attended by servants offering them refreshments, and a large host of onlookers. In 1776 Choiseul-Gouffier and the artist J.B. Hilaire joined a cartographic survey of the Mediterranean. Volume I of Voyage Pittoresque, his account of their tour of the Greek islands, the coast of Asia Minor, and of his travels on the mainland, was immediately acclaimed on publication in 1778. According to Brunet, it was incontestably the most beautiful production of this kind seen until then. Choiseul-Gouffier's work offered for the first time, illustrations of remote places that complemented the scrupulously researched narrative. Copper engraving. Later colour. The marvellous work he produced was published in George Staunton's Account of the expedition in 1797.
