"A very scarce title due to its private printing, in this, Jessen a Norwegian, recounts four hunting trips in Africa with the McMillans of St. Louis, Missouri. The first expedition along the Blue Nile in 1902 records only a few gazelle hunts. In 1904, a second trip carried the McMillan party along the Upper Baro River of Abyssinia with hunts for hippopotamus, elephant, and lion. In addition, more elephant were bagged near Lake Tata and the River Kaia. There was hunting for a variety of plains game including giraffe and zebra throughout this expedition. The third expedition along the Blue Nile offers adventures in Abyssinia but little in the way of sport. A fourth trip made in Autumn 1905 found the party in British East Africa in the foothills of Donyo Sabuk, C. W. I Bulpett, who accompanied the Mcmillans, bagged rhinoceros, eland, and lion, while Mrs. McMillan collected her own… Leer más

London., 1898. Lithograph after original woodcut by William Nicholson from his famous Alphabet book. Nicholson (1872 - 1949) was a printmaker years before he became known as a portrait and landscape painter. He produced posters for commercial products and theatrical events. The style of these posters - simple shapes and flat colour - became the hallmarks of Nicholson's graphic work. The Alphabet, published in 1898 firmly established him in the public's mind and brought him immediate success. Lithograph. Printed colour. Mounted size: 35 x 41 cm Fine condition.

The series was completed in 1904 and published November 1905 in two portfolios consisting of 24 plates. The descriptions which accompany them were written by Arthur Waugh. Lithograph. A Survey of the Cities of London & Westminster. John Strype., 1755.. John Stow's, A Survey of London, was first published in 1598, with a second edition following in 1603. Stow's most famous work, it is an evocative 'perambulation' of the streets of the Tudor capital, which forms the main framework of the book. The huge growth of the metropolis, the devastation wrought by the Great Fire of 1666 and the subsequent rebuilding of the City made an updating of the Survey highly desirable. It was to answer this need that John Strype (1643-1737), the ecclesiastical historian and biographer, published a new, hugely expanded version of Stow's Survey of London in 1720. Copper engraving. ATLAS MINOR In 1604 Hondius bought the plates of Gerard Mercator's atlas, added about 40 maps to Mercator's original number, and from 1606 published enlarged editions in many languages still under Mercator's name, but with his own name as publisher. The Western Australia map shows from Perth, south to Albany, with county borders and sketchy geographical detail, supplemented by text on map - 'Abundance of Kangaroos' or 'rich red loam.'The Tasmanian map shows the northern coast and the strip down to Hobart in detail, the rest of the island is virtually unexplored and left blank. Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, London., 1844. Benevolent societies with the intention to disseminate knowledge were a distinguishing feature of the Victorian age. SDUK was founded in 1827 by John, Earl Russell and Henry Brougham, later Lord Chancellor of England. The Society published books that were deemed to be of high educational worth but with an affordable price. These fine steel engravings have original hand colouring and are often embellished with vignettes and comparisons of the height of the principal buildings of the city. Extent: from the Russian Lapland and Nova Zemlia in the north to Khiva and Bokhara in the south and from the Caspian Sea in the west to Yeniseisk in the east. Inset maps of Nova Zemlia and Yeniseisk.
