Nice reading copy, NOT ex library, but shows signs of reading. interesting and rare book, a very humorous and investigative take on magical phenomenon.

No jacket, book has a tiny bit of tanning inside. Only has the date 1931 inside but does not state first edition, i would guess it was a subsequent printing. Black boards with yellow/gold stamp and woodcut image on the front. Stribling was an important Southern novelist, composing Satire and history of the Vaiden family from slavery times forward. This was the first book in his trilogy, The Forge, The Store, and Unfinished Cathedral, on that. Faulkner read this series and you can find it in his novels on the Snopes family, which has more literary power and grit but these are fun to read too. The Stone won the Pulitzer prize and was Stribling's finest moment. Stribling left the practice of law to write.

(see pictures). Inside its in good shape. Once owned by a library with the ink less stamp of that day used. NOT a first edition, as it says "Nouvelle" appearing to be the second edition. I don't read French but research shows it is the collected work of Jean de Campistron, printed in 1722, the year he died. Volume one only.
