The jacket shows a little waviness. As Eleanor Clark puts it on the back jacket, theres a feeling all the time of it being written by the sea itself. A neglected masterpiece from Matthiessen.

An association copy: This was one of Harrison's personal copies, sent to novelist and memoirist Kaylie Jones (daughter of National Book Award--winning novelist James Jones and actress Gloria Jones). Harrison has sketched his patented face on the half-title page and in a dialogue bubble the inscription reads: "To Kaylie, Jim." A novel with some transcendent descriptions of rural Michigan and its woods. A very good plus paperback with some light wear, handling, and toning.  A nice find for the complete Harrison collector. A photocopy of a note from Harrison conveying the book will be included. .

As the jacket description finishes, "Growing out of a groundbreaking three-part series for the New Yorker, Fields Notes from a Catastrophe brings the environment into the consciousness of the American people and asks what, if anything, can be done to save our planet." Near fine condition with some light soiling to outer edges of black boards (hard to notice). The jacket is also near fine with one small spot and a two-inch scratch (indentation) on the the left side of the front panel. Nice book still: signed first printings are uncommon.
