Very Good+. [Pennsylvania] Printed by R.B. Wilkins & H. Minshall. Large 4to broadside on silk, text in two columns, with a typographical border featuring hearts and flowers and an eagle cartouche. Shulze was governor of Pennsylvania from 1823-1829. The broadside notes that he won election by more than 25,000 votes. When he was reelected three years later the vote came in at 72,000 to 2,000, one of the most lopsided victories in American political history. We could not locate this specific broadside, though a similar single page item is held by Pennsylvania Historical.

Fairbanks and Crawford married when he was just 19, and she was 23. They divorced 4 years later and, though it was not exactly amicable (Crawford cited "grievous mental cruelty," "a jealous and suspicious attitude," and "loud arguments about the most trivial subjects") he was quick to defend her after the scathing publication of MOMMIE DEAREST. Boards scuffed, with a few small bumps and chips along the edges; spine a bit frayed at tips; corners bumped. Adhesive stain on front paste-down (where a bookplate was removed); some underlining and marginalia in red ink (not infringing upon legibility); text block a bit age-toned. A nice working copy, and scarce.
