An excellent working set, with clean and unmarked text blocks, and jackets displaying nicely in mylar.

J. Schramm of D&H RR (Delaware and Hudson Railroad) Corporation, in pencil and ink. He records the availability of work equipment, phone numbers, emergency stock, snow fighting equipment, motor cars, fuel tanks, feet of rail of car loads, switch heaters, guard rails, stone ballast data, types of anchors (with drawings), engine lengths and weights, measures of curves (and bends, braces, slides), and much, much more. Spine tips and corners scuffed; front board of volume one loose; boards, in general, are dry; joints tender. Armorial bookplate of Walter Hawkins; his signature to the title dated 1811. Later gift inscription dated 1862 from Charles James Vyner to Sarah Dorothea Vyner. Engraved Plates by Stothard.

Contemporary gilt-ruled calf, gilt-stamped ornament on raised bands and in spine compartments, inside gilt dentelles, t.e.g.; 12mo (4.25 x 7.25 inches); pp. [i]-vii, [1] (blank), [3]-220, plus full-color folding frontispiece. Light scuffing along joints and edges of boards; tiny chips at spine tips. Frontispiece torn along creases, leaving 2 whole and intact panels bound in, and the rest detached, but complete, and laid-in. An easy repair. The rest of the text block is nice and bright, with just a few instances of some very faint foxing. A nice copy of an uncommon title.

1826. Paperback. Good+. [12 May 1826]. In 1825, Ledebur was appointed apostolic vicar of Hildesheim and was later bishop of Paderborn. He was also appointed Vicar Apostolic of the Northern Missions (Mejer, propaganda, II. 508) in 1826. This brief seems to be dealing with the reorganization of mission territories in post-Reformation Germany under Ledebur’s authority. Names of church districts and dates given. Stamped “L.S.” and imprint “Das apostolischen Vicariat v. Ledebur.” Text in German. (Size: 425 x 330mm).

[iii], 197pp. Engraved frontispiece and three engraved plates by Abraham Raimbach (1776-1843) done from paintings by Robert Smirke (1743-1845). Bound in full green straight-grain morocco with period tooling of lozenge around the covers in gilt and blind, spine lettered and stamped in gilt in compartments, all edges gilt; (somewhat foxed, mainly to margins, uniformly toned, hingel plitting at front; edges rubbed, joints weak). Samuel Johnson wrote Rasselas during the evenings of one week in 1759 to pay for his mother’s funeral and settle her outstanding debts.
