Half mottled cloth and leather boards; 10 x 13 inches; approximately 200 pages, nearly bursting with photographs and ephemera relating to student life at turn-of-the-century Yale. Compiled by a Mr. Jay Morse Pickands (1890-1913), whose family was prominent in the industrial and commercial life of Cleveland, Ohio. (His father, Col. James Pickands, co-founded Pickands, Mather, and Co., Iron Ore, Pig Iron, and Coal.) While at Yale, Jay Pickands was affiliated with Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, and seemed an active participant in many sporting events, theater events, and possibly a secret society (Scroll and Key). Moscow: Gosizdat, 1924. Paperback. Very Good. Typographic designs in text by Rodchenko, original wrappers with photomontage designs and Constructivist typography by Rodchenko. Jim Dollar was the pseudonym for Marietta Shaginian, and this saga was the equivalent of an American ‘dime-store’ novel. 10 volumes in this series were printed, satires aimed at American capitalism and its bourgeois society. Rodchenko’s photomontage designs for these publications would soon be in vogue as a propaganda tool. Strongly influenced by early Soviet Avant-Garde film makers, Rodchenko came up with a uniform design for this series, with changeable elements from one issue to the next. The print-run was large, approximately 25,000 per issue; however copies were generally discarded and survivals are scarce. For the moment, offering our three issues as a group.

Original tan paper boards, chip to base of spine; cover a bit rubbed and stained (but better than most!) and printed paper label. Lowell's first book, preceeded by the pamphlet, "Class Poem". Early bookplate of Alexander L. Wyant.

First Issue, one of the first available copies, issued without the errata slip (rare thus). Lowell's first book, preceeded by the pamphlet, "Class Poem". An exceptionally nice copy, with light wear only.

Volumes in wraps -- covers rubbed, chipped along the edges and, in two instances, sometimes detached but present (nos. 7, 12). Single hardbound volume -- boards a bit scuffed. All volumes illustrated, internally clean. An exellent working set.

Antonia Fraser is the widow of Harold Pinter, who directed Bacall in Tennessee Williams's "Sweet Bird of Youth.") Spine tips and corners lightly rubbed, otherwise book is fine. Dust jacket somewhat age-toned, and a little wrinkled along the edges. A Jemima Shore novel. Lauren Bacall (born in the Bronx as Betty Joan Perske, 1924-2014) was an American actress known for her distinctive voice and sultry looks.
