This 1894 limited edition of Fables Choisies de La Fontaine is a collection of 28 fables magnificently illustrated in colour by some of the best Japanese artists of the late nineteenth century, including Kadji-Ta Hanko, Kawa-Nabe Kiyo-Soui, Kano To, O-Nobou, Oka-Koura, Shiou-Soui, and Eda Sa-Shiko. The majority of the tales presented were collected in the nineteenth century by folklorists such as William Allingham, T. Crofton Croker, Douglas Hyde, and Lady Wilde, mother of the playwright Oscar Wilde. Wade 212.

Paris: Chez l'Auteur, 1788. . Quarto, engraved title, engraved dedication, 24 engraved plates accompanied by engraved text, contemporary mottled calf gilt, neat repairs to joints. Lovely example of this celebrated work, bound in full contemporary calf.The plates are reductions of large plates engraved from drawings by Jesuit Attiret, on orders of the Emperor of China and the intervention of the East India Company. Cochin the French engraver was charged by M. de Marigny to oversea the work, and the plates were actually done by Aliamet, Choffard, Le Bas, Nee, Prevost and Saint-Aubin. Distribution was very strictly limited to China, and only one or two rare copies were found in Europe. It was after these sets that Helman made his fine engravings. Salvin and Brodrick were keen north country falconers. Salvin was a military man whose love of hawking is supposed to have been stimulated by his acquaintance with John Tong, assistant falconer to the celebrated sportsman Colonel Thornton. Salvin was also a frequent contributor to the Field. Brodrick learnt hawking on the moor of his uncle, 'the celebrated Selby of Twizzell' (Mullens & Swann). The sequel to The Birth of a Nation, Dixon directed a film version of this invasion novel released in the same year.

He photographed mainly on the weekends and mostly in and around Lexington, Kentucky, where he raised his family. In this, his best-known work, he cast his wife Madelyn as the mask-wearing central character Lucybelle Crater, a name adapted from a character in Flannery O'Connor's short story The Life You Save May Be Your Own (1953). This weekly was originally issued in serialised format, beginning in about 1877. Each issue consists of 8 pages with a pictorial cover showing known boxers. All of the historical champion bare-knuckle boxers and major fights are included. This grouping of 36 issues (all published) was apparently bound together by the publisher after all the parts were issued. Eynsham, The Fantasy Press, 1954. . First edition, sole impression; single quire, wired stitched into self wrappers printed in black and brown; edges a little toned as usual, otherwise very good. Part of Oscar Mellor's epochal Fantasy Poets series which, by itself, defined the poetical movement known unimaginatively as, The Movement. Only about 300 copies or so of each pamphlet were printed and Larkin's has always been the most prized.

Views are mostly topographical in nature of Nikko and Koyoto. There are four silver gelatin prints at the end of Vancouver.
