An act making it an offence to sell adulterated tea, with a fine of £5 for each pound in weight of adulterated or imitation tea. The act also required anyone found in possession of any more than six pounds in weight of the offending 'imitation' leaves prove that they had permission to gather the leaves from the tree's owner and that the leaves would not be put to use in the creation of imitation tea.

The contents comprising 21 proof engravings by John Romney after both his own drawings as well as works by other artists including Richard Westall, Henry Corbould, and Thomas Stothard, mounted on tabs and interleaved with thick blank paper leaves. Most of the engravings are captioned in pencil at the foot in a contemporary hand. The binding is somewhat fragile with both boards held by cords only and with wear and rubbing to the boards. The contents with varying scattered foxing (heavy to some plates, with others completely clean) are otherwise in good order. A curious bound collection of proof engravings by the English printmaker John Romney (1785-1863). Born in Chester, Romney spent much of his life in the city, although also lived and worked in London for a period. Each plate measuring 28.5 x 22cm (sheet measuring 43.5 x 30.5cm) and with "Chalcographie du Louvre, Musées Imperiaux" blindstamp to the lower margin. Old collector's numbers in pencil to the blank bottom-right corners of the sheets. Condition is very good with some light scattered foxing and marking to the sheet margins, occasionally to the plates themselves, some marking to the head of sheet of no. 9 and 11, a 3cm tear to the blank foot of sheet of no. 5, and a 2cm tear to the blank top-left margin of sheet of no. 14 (framing would largely solve these relatively minor issues). The impressions remain crisp and sharp. [Original artwork], [c.1912-1920].. More than 100 original drawings, predominantly in pen and ink with some in pencil, on paper. A number are double-sided, six are heightened with watercolour, and two with gilt. Images range between 35 x 25cm and 4 x 4cm. Condition is very good with just the odd minor mark, tear or crease. A few of the larger drawings have been mounted, with some bearing remnants of mounts to the blank margins. The images themselves remain clean and fresh.
