Fine- in Near Fine unrestored Dust Jacket. A really nice exceptional copy in dust jacket. The book itself is just about fine with very clean pages. Dust jacket is quite clean and bright at the front, and does NOT have any major tears. Typical edge-wear top and bottom spine and rubbing and nicks to the same and at the corners, and some typical soiling to the back of the dust jacket. Overall a very clean and presentable first edition copy of one of the half-dozen major works of Steinbeck.

The Clue in the Crumbling Wall Nancy Drew Mystery Stories No. 22 by Carolyn Keene (collective pseudonym; actually by Harriet Stratemeyer Adams) Hardcover First Edition - Second State Dust Jacket New York: Grosset & Dunlap 1945. Identified as a first edition - second state because the last Nancy Drew title listed on the front flap of the dust jacket is "The Secret in the Old Attic" with no mention of the present title. However, the ads at the back are Beverly Gray. The first state should be Judy Bolton. Also, a war-time edition which furthers the case this book is a first printing. Extremely difficult to find with the first state jacket listing the books without mention of the present title. Also with Nancy Drew with a spy glass in silhouette in red on the front board and similar illustration on the front endpapers with other women.

Der Coethnischen Lieder Erster und Anderer Theil, zum Lobe des Dreyeinigen Gottes und zu gewünschter reicher Erbauung vieler Menschen mit Innhalts, Spruch und Anfangs Registern Reuttlingen: Johann Georg Fleischhauer, ca. 1770, (4) 472 (24). I won't attempt a translation except to say this appears to be a book of German song lyrics dating from 1770 with a signed inscription of 1778 and a frontispiece of David at the harp. Whether these are religious songs or secular songs, I am not sure. Appears to be very good in very good binding, written in German black letter throughout. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (the front cover has the title "A Yankee in King Arthur's Court") by Mark Twain pen name of Samuel Clemens Hardcover First Edition - First Printing - Second State New York: Charles L. Webster & Co., 1889. Illustrated by Daniel Carter Beard (although appears to be uncredited) NOTE: Webster published "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" four years earlier.
Issue Points: Dark green pictorial cloth boards, original copyright 1889 stated on both the title page and the copyright page, Samuel Clemens named as the copyright holder, measures about 8.5" x 7", more or less a quarto. [16 prelims] 575 numbered pages, Speckled end-papers, frontispiece flanking the title page, but no half-title to the recto of the frontis, lacks "S" ornament on page 59 (first state copies have an "S" between "The" and "King" underneath the illustration), and two unnumbered pages (i.e. one leaf) of ads at the back. Curious Remarks and Observations Extracted from the History and Memoirs of the Royal Academy of Science at Paris Vol. II Which concludes the General Physics by Dr. Peter Templeman London: Printed for C. Davis, MDCCLIV 1754. Second volume of a two-volume set, although the first volume recounts a voyage to South America. The Second volume is complete in of itself with 10 fold-out plates, mainly of insects and bees, and other exotic creatures. Appears to be quite rare. There is only one copy of both volumes available for just under $900.
Collation/Condition: Title page; Preface; Contents; Main Text 1-406, complete with 10 fold-out plate engravings. Near Fine pages overall in Very Good+ Binding. Pages and Engravings are very clean and bright, except for some toning on the blank free-end papers, a very clean book.
