(New York): (Gotham Book Mart), 1983. First edition. Very good plus.. Descripción:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1982. First edition. Fine in about-fine jacket.. Signed first printing of the novelization of Melissa Mathison's original screenplay by the World Fantasy Award-winning Kotzwinkle. Tender tale of a "blossoming neurotic" who meets a ten-million-year-old telekinetic botanist at just the right time in a young boy's life for this important relationship to flower. Based on Melissa Mathison's screenplay for Steven Spielberg's staggeringly successful film, Kotzwinkle's novel follows the basic plot outline laid down for it but also adds a considerable and original emphasis on the perspective of young Elliott's mother, denied more than a peripheral role in the film, and on the inner experience of the alien itself: the Extra-Terrestrial's sensitivities, psychic powers, affinities, and self-image. "I see him as this scorned Chaplinesque figure who at the same time is some sort of redeemer," the author later explained. Already an acclaimed children's writer and fantasist before the…

Descripción:
London: n.p., 1998. Fine.. Limited edition artist's book that reflects on the colors, textures, and history of two ancient cities, incorporating a variety of illustration methods and materials. Susan Allix reflects on her creative philosophy, "I am concerned with visual things so I see books as full of colour and form in a pictorial sense as well as through the images created in my mind by the words, and through the sculptural qualities a book possesses" (artist statement). This richly-illustrated textural travelogue, with only two pages of text, is a beautiful example of Allix's artistry and skill at telling stories through visuals. Only nine copies of EAST FROM HERE were produced, one of her smallest limitations. 13.25'' x 10.5''. Original black goatskin-backed white linen boards. Original stiff paper dust jacket with color, embossed, suede, and metal clip elements, with cut-outs revealing the boards. Endpapers of hand-made blue paper. Descripción:
Chicago: Aldine Publishing Company, 1964. First edition. Near fine in near fine jacket.. First printing in book form of the landmark study that "transformed the study of slavery - and of economic history" (Jamelle Bouie). The extent of the atrocities brought about by the trans-Atlantic slave trade has always been difficult to quantify, with current estimates reaching 12.5 million people forcibly taken from their homelands and enslaved in the so-called New World. In 1958, Conrad and Meyer applied new tools to the field in their influential article, "The Economics of Slavery in the Ante Bellum South" (first published in book form here). Jamelle Bouie argued in THE NEW YORK TIMES that the article's "methods, which relied on statistical data and mathematical analysis, revolutionized the field." 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original quarter brown cloth, grey cloth boards. In original unclipped (no price) pictorial dust jacket. Brown topstain, brown endpapers. xii, 241, [1] pages. Faint foxing to edges. Jacket with a…
