Descripción:
1934. [JAPANESE CARTS]. UENO, Atsugui. Go shoguruma. [Royal Imperial Carts]. 13 leaves, including 12 coloured plates, on double leaves folded accordion style (orihon). Oblong folio, 270 x 390 mm., bound in publisher's boards, orange glazed wrapper on upper cover bearing tassels and leaves. Kyoto: 1934. A beautiful suite of decorative plates, superbly printed in gold and colour, illustrating Imperial Carts for use of the Royal Family, each with leaf of descriptive text and all within fan-shaped images. Each highly stylized image is fan-shaped; the leaves of descriptive text are embossed with vines, leaves and so forth. Although Atsugi Ueno is not listed in Laurence Roberts' Dictionary of Japanese Artists, he was clearly an artist of considerable abilities: each cart, or symbol of a cart (perhaps only a single-spoke wheel) is delicately placed among or behind a group of flowers or vines. This is the most elegant volume of Japanese Imperial Carts known to us; that this work contains… Leer más

Descripción:
1932. KIRK, Hans. Jorgens Hjul. Unpaginated [8 ff]. Illustrated throughout many pages with photomontage by Arne Ungermann. Small 4to., bound in original illustrated boards, preserved in a new blue cloth folding box. Copenhagen: Mondes Forlag a/s, 1932. A classic avant-garde children's book, which was almost certainly influenced by the work of such Russian artists as Lebedev, especially with the striking use of photomontages, which are juxtaposed with Ungermann's lithographic illustrations. The work is essentially a potted history of transportation for children, done in such a bold andimaginative way to create a book for adults to delight in as well. A rare book with OCLC listing only 3 copies in the US, at Princeton, Yale and the University of Washington. Andel, Avant Garde Page Design 359

Lizars after John Hay; 8 illustrations in text. 8vo., 229 x 142 mm, bound in original brown boards with paper label on spine. Uncut. Edinburgh: Bell & Bradfute, 1823. First Edition. Their goal was to trade techniques and seeds with other horticulturalists in Northern Europe and to bring new fruits and vegetables back into Scotland. They traveled in areas under French control which had, until recently, been inaccessible to Britons. The Society wanted to establish an Experimental Garden upon their return where "the fruits… Leer más
