Descripción:
Guildford Surrey: Genesis Publications Ltd, 1980. First edition. Fine/Fine. Number 1899 of 2000 copies, signed by George Harrison on the limitation page. An exceptionally clean, fresh copy, still with the original plain paper dust wrapper and in the original publisher's shipping box (also numbered 1899). Book pristine. Slipcase with one little spot to paper the label, otherwise Fine. Paper dust wrapper with some creasing and small tears at the spine due to the raised bands of the book underneath. With the publisher's letter to the subscriber. Rare to find in such an original state. Taking its name from the last track the Beatles recorded on before their breakup, I Me Mine is a nontraditional memoir by one of rock music's greats—the singer-songwriter and guitarist George Harrison. Interspersed with photographs and including an important section of reproductions of his handwritten lyrics accompanied by an explanation of each song, the book is a window into Harrison's artistry and ideology. London: Printed for Darton, Harvey, and Darton, 1817. First edition. Publisher's quarter roan over marbled boards with gilt to spine. Measuring 135 x 80mm and collating complete including frontis: [4], 216. A charming example, with gentle bumps to corners and binding firm; rebacked with original spine laid down. Contemporary gift inscription to recto of frontis: "Fanny Tomkinson given her by Miss Morris. Febry 16th 1824." Slight offsetting to title and occasional foxing, but overall a fresh, unmarked example. Scarce institutionally and in trade, we have located 8 examples in OCLC. The present is the only copy currently on the market. An author of pedagogical texts and instructional novels, including Thoughts on Education, Maria Benson infused even her fictional work with lessons that encouraged women's learning. Following the adventures of Agatha Torrington, Imitation suggests that while girls should to some extent learn social graces and good behavior from the women around them, copying such… Leer más

New York: Covici Friedi, 1936. First edition. Fine/Fine. Octavo. Original orange cloth, lettering to spine in black, rules to covers and spine in red, top edge red. With dust jacket. Housed in a custom green morocco-backed folding box. An exceptionally Fine copy which is bright and crisp. Fine dust jacket with only the most trivial rubbing to extremities, otherwise extremely bright and fresh. Presentation copy inscribed by the author "For Guy G. B. Reedy, John Steinbeck" on front free endpaper. A signed limited edition was also issued by the publishers in 1936. Steinbeck met Reedy when he moved to New York in the early 1920s and both men worked on the construction of Madison Square Garden. Steinbeck left after seeing a co-worker fall to his death, but the two remained close, and Steinbeck inscribed first editions of all his books for Reedy. Historically overshadowed by Steinbeck's towering works East of Eden and The Grapes of Wrath, his later novel In Dubious Battle has seen a resurgence of… Leer más

London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1909. First edition. Publisher's blue cloth, front cover with a gilt camel and tribesman within a double circular frame, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. Front inner hinge cracked but still a near fine copy with the just the mildest of rubbing to cloth extremities. xvi, 389, [1, blank], [1, Map], [1, imprint], [2, advertisements]. With 104 photogravure illustrations (some full-page) 8 maps and General Map of British East Africa at end. "In the following pages I have endeavoured to give a plain account of the trials and adventures which befell me on two recent expeditions through the nyika, or wilderness, in British East Africa. On the first trip there were three of us, and all returned safely to civilisation, although dangers were not wholly absent. On the second and longer expedition there were also three Europeans, but, alas! only two got back, the nyika having claimed the third; nor was the god of the wilds content with this sacrifice, for, in… Leer más

Descripción:
Boston: Little, Brown & Co, 1996. First edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. A Near Fine copy in like dust jacket, with discoloration from publisher's glue on the front endpaper (as always). Top-edge of the text block a bit spotted. Jacket nearly Fine with no chips or tears. First state with the "Vollman" misprint on the rear panel. "Infinite Jest is more or less evenly split between the story of the Incandenza family, dysfunctional proprietors of a tennis academy, and that of the residents of a halfway house for addicts, separated from their luckier counterparts by 'a tall and more or less denuded hill.' One houses America's winners; the other, its losers. The two groups rarely interact, and the sections of the book dedicated to them differ in tone: the first is more comic, the second more realist, even heart-string-pulling. The unique feel of the novel comes from this juxtaposition...but what may be most special about it is its experimental quality. Infinite Jest is a novel about the narcotic power of… Leer más

Descripción:
London: J.M. Dent & Co, 1907. Second (and best) trade edition. Large quarto. Original green cloth stamped in gilt. Pictorial endpapers. Mild wear, spine mildly sunned, but still an excellent copy in a later tan pictorial dust jacket printed in black. Twenty-four color plates tipped-in on brown stock with captioned tissue guards, twelve tinted plates, and sixty-six drawings in black and white. With the bookplate of Maude M. Monell on front paste-down. Written under the nom-de-plume of clergyman Richard Harris Barham, The Ingoldsby Legends was a collection of myths and ghost stories that blended humor with the grotesque. Largely composed in rhyme, the stories emphasize figures such as saints and gods; and they were published to delight a Victorian audience increasingly interested in sensationalist gothic literature. Latimore and Haskell 30-31. Riall 83.
