Only with this ring can Sakoontala claim her rightful place as queen. Trouble ensues when she loses the ring while traveling to meet him. A widely admired play, both within India as well as the rest of the world due to its influence on Goethe. .

A lovely, Near Fine copy of the book with a previous owner's bookplate on the front paste-down and some minor dampstaining to the rear end leaves, otherwise a bright, crisp copy. In a Very Good+ to Near Fine dust jacket with the spine panel a bit toned and two clean tears on the rear panel, without loss (the larger about an inch long and a corresponding crease across the panel). Churchill's only major work of fiction, Savrola is a melodramatic tale of political unrest, dictatorship, and revolution in the fictional Mediterranean state of Laurania. Several sections have been neatly excised from the notebook -- likely unrelated school content from other classes, to ensure that the present notebook focused on math and science lessons. We've been unable to pin down precisely which Annie J. Doran this manuscript was owned by (a number of Irish immigrants and first generation women by this name resided in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and New York during this period, according to Census records); however, in the absence of a specific creator, the notebook nevertheless sheds light onto the American educational system, and the type of STEM training being provided to young women in the lead up to the nineteenth century. Documenting the meetings, finances, elections, inductions, and deaths of members from 1903-1909 of a local chapter of the influential Women's Christian Temperance Union which sought to protect women and families from the violent effects of alcoholism as well as to address social ills harming women in all areas. At its foundation in 1873, the Women's Christian Temperance Union aimed to lobby for social temperance and for alcohol bans to protect women and families from the violent effects of alcoholism. In 1879, under the national direction of Frances Willard, the WCTU adopted as its motto "Do Everything." By this, the WCTU meant "that every question of practical philanthropy or reform has its temperance aspect" (WCTU). Ownership signature of Mrs. Russell to header of front wrap. Scattered foxing and some dampstaining not affecting text. Text block loose but holding. In all, an intriguing glimpse into a woman's use of literature to express her own preoccupations with humans' place between nature and the divine. The six poems contained in this slim volume appear to have been thoughtfully selected and carefully copied out. Indeed, among them exist several thematic threads that teach us about the elusive Mrs. Russell, who leaves no identifying information except her ownership signature. A truly lovely example, bound in recently rebacked quarter cloth over sheep with gilt floral endpapers. All edges brightly gilt. A reminder of how easily women's stories and lives can be lost to history, the present album carries no ownership signature or explanation of what drew its young women contributors together from across major cities in the U.K. and Europe. What the notebook does preserve, however, are the names of a group of women including Adelaide Smollets, Hilda May Sides, Eileen Shea, Winifred and Edith Maude Tweedie, Margaret Monnypenny, Nina Barken, Cissie Daice, Kathleen McArthur, Mabel Weir, Violet Henley, and Dorothy Dudgeon who were drawn together on these pages through their literary and artistic contributions. First edition in book form, first printing, this copy in notably attractive condition. Shane is a classic of the western genre and was the author's first book. The story was initially published in 1946 as a three part serial in the pulp magazine Argosy under the name Rider from Nowhere.
