Sixty-three engraved plates by John Pye, George Cooke, George Hollis, J. Landseer and others. Heavy wear to corners and edges, rodent damage to upper half of spine partially affecting corner of the pages, two bookplates on front pastedown endpaper, one of which was removed. Stain affecting the upper half of the last few pages, scattered foxing and offsetting throughout. A solid copy despite defects and remarkably with all the plates in fairly nice condition. ; Quarto.

Anderson, was orignally published in 1799. Six full page engravings, including portrait frontis of Cook. Complete. Previous owners named scratched out on the title page, without any loss to the page. Bound in contemporary full reversed calf. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Red title label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Loss to the top f the spine, exposing the headband, which is loose. 2 inch chip to the top of the front blank endpaper. Overall avery good copy in an early calf binding. :

1848 1ed Wreck of the Glide Fiji & Wallis Islands Native Shipwrecks Dix Oliver

James Oliver's wrote a captivating account of his experiences of the impending disaster on the ship 'The Glide' in his book 'Wreck of the Glide'. The ship struck a reef on March 21, 1831, and dragged its anchor for 8 miles until it finally wrecked on the Fijian Island Vanua Levu. This book includes descriptions of life and manners at the Fiji Islands and their peoples.

This first edition of 'Wreck of the Glide' includes recollections of the Fijiis and Wallis Island and is expounded upon by Dix. Features an account of life and manners at the Fiji Islands.

1687 Travels of Chardin in PERSIA Middle East Iraq Turkey Iran Voyages French

A rare French edition of Jean Chardin's "Travels into Persia and the East Indies". This book is regarded as one of the finest works of early Western scholarship on Persia and the Near East. This printing was published at the same time as other French edition, all are considered first editions. In this book Chardin discusses his journeys from Constantinople to the Black Sea, Persia, and throughout the Middle East (Kashan, Iraq; Armenia, Crimea, and Georgia). The end of his journey took him through the Cape of Good Hope, on his way home.

Upon his return, he was considered quite a celebrity in London; though, according to Evelyn he was 'not inclined to talke wonders". He met with famous members of the Royal Society, all of whom took great interest in his voyage. He told them of his witnessing of Abbas II's coronation, and the jewels and fine ornaments he had seen.
