Illustrated with illuminated chromolithographic Limitation and Title page and further by tissue-guarded duotone plates after original drawings by eminent French and American artists. A splendid opus of France's most masterfull story teller. This limited edition set was the first complete collection of the authors work to be published in English. Quite scarce. Spines and covers mildly sunned. Covers spines and hinges occasionally rubbed and mildly chipped. Mild chipping to two headpieces. Volume 4 presents an obvious repair at front hinge which has somewhat darkened that area ( covers well attatched). A Very Good, clean, attractive set.

24mo (98 x 64mm), pp. 24 of text, with pp. 24 of monthly profit and loss accounts, and twelve hand-coloured engraved plates; contemporary embroidered pale pink silk binding over binder's board; sides with outer frame of a fine silver metal scroll held by zigzagging thread; gilt thread decoration punctuated with multi-coloured sequins surrounding central motif of wheatsheaf on upper board, and a mandolin bow and quiver surmounted by a double heart on lower board; smooth spine, with a little surface wear; coloured Brokatpaper endpapers, salmon taffeta gusseted pocket on lower cover;
A charming near miniature almanac in a well preserved embroidered binding. The almanac is illustrated with twelve brightly hand-coloured engraved plates, accompanying the Bible stories in verse. Particularly impressive is the plate accompanying the story of the Tower of Babel.
The text which includes some printed music also allows room for 24 ruled and headed pages for monthly accounts.

Beautifully bound in alum tawed pigskin over beveled wooden boards, elaborately blindestamped, with some hardware (clasp) still present, an excellent specimen of this style of binding and with a unique centerpiece stamp—an arrow up and an arrow down, with a bridge between the two incorporating a cross (representing Jesus coming to earth, dying on the cross, and rising again). A very similar ancient symbol can be found on Pictish rock carvings in Scotland (see the Elgin Cathedral Church Pictish stones). Josephus was a 1st century Jewish-Roman historian, who mentions Jesus in his writing, providing a 1st century non-Christian reference to the man Jesus Christ. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.

Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
