San Juan Capistrano, California:: Dirk Hagner,, [n.d.].. Edition of 30. 11.25 x 7.25" closed, extends to 11.75 x 30". Accordion structure with four folds. Letterpress printed on 100% cotton paper. Black paper-covered boards with silver titling and multicolored thread tie closure. Housed in black lidded box with title in white and hand written edition number on lid. Signed and numbered by the artist. Dirk Hagner: "The album uses a quote from Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska employing texting as a means to allow use of larger type in the letterpress process than would be normally possible. 'All is mine and nothing owned for memory, and mine only while I look.' Much like a jpeg photograph the words compress when texted to fewer letters; however, when read, it 'resurrects' to the full wording. It allowed the effective use of some pied wood type.

Signed and numbered. Dirk Hagner: "The Lepidoptera series of 11 original prints roots in eastern and western sensibilities, and mythological notions of male-female attraction. It is realized by using gestural spontaneity and the graphic precision of printmaking. The project started with drawings for the woodcuts of the female figure, celebrated in art since the renaissance, and ink brush paintings for the making of aquatint lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) imagery. Asemic writing, printed from relief etchings, provide rhythmic compositional counterpoints. The addition of wood type letterpress outside the chine collé image area expands the visual to the entire page while the rich flat black screen-printed strips at its boundaries… Leer más

Page numbers printed in orange ink on bottom right of each card. Housed in blue cardstock trifold with velcro closure. Tittle printed on cover in blue ink. Signed and numbered by the artist. This piece printed and designed by Lauren Emeritz is based on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948. Emeritz printed excerpts from the Declaration with her usual attention to detail - color, type, layout and material. She created the prints by hand using traditional printing presses and typographic forms combined with some modern techniques. She begins with article 01 "ALL HUMANS ARE FREE & EQUAL" and ends with article 30 "NO ONE MAY DENY THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS". The portfolio of prints is a testament to her internship in letterpress design at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee in 2017. The Hatch… Leer más

U.S.A.: ITC, 1975. First Edition. Published to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the American typewriter, with designers Joel Kaden and Tony Stan reinvigorating the font by dispensing with its rigid spacing. "On every standard typewriter, there's a metal bar with a row of teeth spaced exactly one-tenth of an inch apart. In 1874 this famous bar lifted the typewriter from the inventor's bench and placed it in the office where it changed our reading habits, modified our concepts of legibility, and eventually opened the world of business to women." Bound in stapled colour paper wrappers, 340 mm x 153 mm, 27 pages, a near fine copy.

Descripción:
London: Unit Editions, 2021. 1st ed. Paperback. New/no dj as issued. A long overdue book examining the extraordinary life and work of artist/designer Ed Fella. Ed Fella is revered by many of the leading names in contemporary design. Now, at long last, there is a book that charts Ed's journey from the commercial design studios of 1950s Detroit to his current position as a widely celebrated artist/designer. Ed Fella: A Life in Images makes extensive use of his vast treasure store of visual delight: it showcases flyers, posters, original sketches, drawings, Polaroids and collages, as well as items from Ed's collection of vernacular design. The book makes unrestricted use of Ed's vast archive. David Cabianca, the book's co-author and its instigator, has surveyed the archive in depth. He writes: "Ed Fella's archive is legion. It branches into numerous streams while sustaining a robust trail of examples along the way. Fella's archive exhausts the possibilities one might find in graphic design. Ed Fella… Leer más

"From the dust jacket: Paul Rand's stature as one of the world's leading graphic designers is uncontestable. For half a century his pioneering work in the field of advertising design and typography has exerted a profound influence on the design profession; he almost single-handedly transformed "commercial art" from a practice that catered to the lowest common denominator of taste to one that could assert its place among the fine arts. Among the numerous clients for whom he has been a consultant and/or designer are the American Broadcasting Company, IBM Corporation, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
In this witty and instructive book, Paul Rand speaks on the process and… Leer más
