Marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, 43 steel engravings, double page map with outlines in color. The top corner of the back cover of Vol.1 has been damp and is a bit distorted, the spines are lightly faded, and some of the plates have spotting and dampstains. A tight, solid set which presents well on the shelf. Engravings by H. Warren. (Sets, History--Ireland, Sets).

In Ireland, the High Crosses marked sanctuaries, under the invocation of certain saints, and offered protection to a fugitive who sought shelter there. This publication focuses on those crosses at Castledermot Monastery and at Durrow. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: cover is lightly soiled; shadow on front cover; chipping along cover edges; lacking upper corner of back cover; front cover is partially detached from tail; minor chipping along fore-edge of several plates; pages and plates are clean and bright.

James MacGeoghegan was an Irish Roman Catholic priest and historian. His 'History of Ireland' was written in French and published at Parish in 1758. John Mitchel's 1868 'History of Ireland' professes to be merely a continuation of MacGeoghegan, though Mitchel is throughout much more of a partisan than MacGeoghegan.

It was one of the key events of the Irish Civil War. The act imposed death sentences on any IRA member or supporter captured with a firearm or ammunition.
