The first commodity exchange was set up shortly after the American Civil War and since have often been held responsible for both inflation and deflation; at the peak of every inflationary spiral, Commodity Exchanges were blamed for high prices, and at the bottom of every slump, blamed for low prices. This volume offers a reassessment of their role and impact.
