FIRST EDITION 1639, 4to, approximately 271 x 180 mm, 10¾ x 6¾ inches, LACKING ENGRAVED FRONTISPIECE OF CHARLES I, now supplied in facsimile, plus an extra illustration of King Charles, also lacking the conjugate leaf with the Explanation of the portrait, decorated headpieces and initials, 1 half page vignette of a plant on page, 181, pages: [30], 1-356, [7] lacking last blank leaf, bound in full contemporary calf, double blind ruled border to covers, expertly rebacked with raised bands and gilt lettered red morocco label, all edges red. Top corner of upper cover slightly worn, ex library copy with small very pale shield shaped stamp to lower margin of title page, repeated on 10 further pages, 2 small rectangular stamps on verso of title page, one or two small pale marginal damp stains, small hole in top corner of page 109, no loss, neat ink note in 1 margin, small piece missing from 1 lower corner, no loss (paper flaw), small hole in inner margin at lower edge of page 355, neatly repaired, not affecting text. A very good clean tight copy, frontispiece in facsimile as noted.
