We are unable to vouch for the truthfulness of its claim, yet the course pursued by our gallant commander-in-chief since his assumption of the control of the Army of the Potomac is the best argument for its truthfulness. ... : Two o'clock of the third night after General McClellan's arrival in Washington to take command of the United States Army, found that justly celebrated soldier poring over several maps and reports of scouts. ...[[No publication information] [1861?]. Cincinnati: Caxton Publishing House, 1868. First Edition . Hardcover. Good+/None Included. G+/1st ed./0. A pretty well preserved copy. Leather embossed covers are firmly attached with title in gilt on spine all present and still pretty bright along with several decorations. Hinges on both front and rear are starting, more so the back hinge. Hand sewn signatures are firmly secure and all pages are present. All illustrations are present-with the exception of the one on page 469--only half of that page is present--it's a page of engravings Colonels in the regiment. All the illustrations have foxing of varying amounts. Most of the tissue guards are present, some are not, and that has created some foxing to the text before or behind the illustration but the foxing does not obsure any print. A few other pages have a small amount of foxing started by a fingerprint. I found 2 pages missing a corner- pages 33 through 36. My favorite thing in this book is on page 363: a heart felt account of…

1884 1ed Confederate War Papers General Gustv Smith Battle Seven Pines Civil WarGustavus Woodward Smith was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, best remembered for his role in the Battle of Seven Pines. When General Joseph Johnson was injured, Smith took over the commanding role until his health deteriorated and Robert E. Lee ultimately took over.
Following the war, Smith published a memoir of his experience in the war. 'Confederate War Papers' covers topics including Jefferson Davis's presidential election, battle tactics and maneuvers, Confederate defenses and forts, and much emphasis on the Battle of Seven Pines. However, according to Nevins,
"Smith was a failure as a general; this work is largely his rationalization for shortcomings at Seven Pines."

1887 Civil War 1st ed George McClellan Own Story Union General Slavery Lincoln"The Union, which can alone insure internal peace, and external security to each State, Must and Shall be Preserved, cost what it may in time, treasure, and blood."
– George B. McClellan
A rare first edition of George B. McClellan's "Own Story" which wasn't published until 1887, after his death. McClellan used this work as a platform to defend his conduct, actions, and decisions during the Mexican-American War and Civil War. This book includes letters to his wife, in which McClellan reveals his pride as a general as well as his feelings toward war.
Some of the most important inclusions in this work are McClellan's views on the causes and reasons for the Civil War, noting slavery and the Lincoln-Douglas debates as primary causes, but he blamed the South as the culprit for causing the uprising, rather than putting any blame on the North.
Per Eicher,
"This is in large part a reworking of McClellan's 'Letter of the… Leer más

1887 Confederate Navy Memoirs of Raphael Semmes Civil WAR Service Afloat RARERaphael Semmes was a Confederate officer in the American Civil War, commanding ships in the Confederate and the United States Navy. He published a collection of memoirs and war reminiscences describing his service in the navy during the Civil War; however, this work is primarily looked at as a defense of his actions during the Confederacy's inevitable loss, or 'Lost Cause'.
According to Nevins, this work is
"a first-hand, subjective account by the captain of the CSS Sumpter and the Alabama, interestingly written."
