Previous owners neat name on front blank endpaper otherwise a fine copy in original burgundy cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to front board and spine. Front board with quadruple ruled black borders, spine ruled in gilt. In the scarce original publshers dustwrapper with colour illustration mounted onto the front panel, below black lettering and four line border. Flaps and other panels lettered in black. Original printed price (15/-) on spine has been blacked out neatly. Aside from a couple of tiny chips to the wrapper this is a beautiful fine example of this well produced edition. Scarce in this condition.:

WBeautifully illustrated with nearly 100 line drawings by Robinson. 16pp publishers catalogue at end, dated 1895. Finely bound in recent full dark green morocco, spine with five raised bands, the compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. All edges gilt. The publishers original decorative green cloth boards and spine, lettered and decorated in gilt, are bound in at rear. A lovely copy of this wonderful book.

Methuen & Co. Ltd. London. 1931. FIRST EDITION with Ernest Shepard illustrations. 8vo. (7.6 x 5.3 inches). Aside from some brown marking to one page, this is generally a very good copy, illustrated throughout with Shepard`s beautiful line drawings. Finely bound in recent full dark green morocco leather binding, spine with raised bands, ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Top edge gilt. Original dark green cloth front cover, showing Toad, Ratty and Mole, all in gilt, bound in at rear. ----- The thirty eighth edition overall, this is the first to feature the wonderful drawings by Shepard which haven't been out of print since. After his drawings for the A. A. Milne Pooh books, these are Shepard's most enduring, & endearing, illustrations.

Illustrated with 8 beautiful full page colour plates, each with a printed tissue guard, 104 line drawings throughout the text, plus illustrated endpapers at the front and back, all by Charles Robinson. Small bookseller label to the bottom of the front free endpaper. A fine and spotless copy of the book in publishers dark green cloth binding with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and spine. In the rare original illustrated dustwrapper, printed in red and green on beige paper. The red ink on the spine is faded and there are a couple of very small chips but overall this is a very smart example of the wrapper on a truly fine book. This first American edition uses sheets from the English edition, prnited by Ballantyne and Company in London. An uncommon survivor in such lovely condition.

Warne. London. 1886. FIRST U. K EDITION. 8vo. (8.4 x 6 inches). Illustrated with 26 drawings by Birch, many full page. Finely leather bound, for Sotheran's of Sackville Street, in half deep red morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe of London. Spine with raised bands. Compartments lettered and decorated in gilt. Red cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A few faint marks to the cloth boards and minor rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good copy of this famous tale.

Some light offsetting to half title and last text page otherwise a very bright copy.:

A little light foxing to just a few pages but overall a very good copy, finely bound, by Riviere Bookbinder of Bath, in early half dark blue calf. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments lettered and ruled in gilt. Navy blue cloth on boards. All edges Marbled. Blue marbled endpapers. School prize plate from Charterhouse on the front pastedown endpaper, dated 1932, signed by Frank Fletcher, the headmaster and presented to G. C. Riall. School arms stamped in gilt to the front board. The spine fo the book is rubbed and darkened but still an attractive copy of the lovely book.

The Macmillan Company. New York. 1910. TWO WORKS IN ONE VOLUME. Reprint of this single volume \edition, first published in this format in 1906. 8vo. (7.4 x 5.2 inches). Illustrated throughout with ninety-two (42 +50) fabulous line engravings by John Tenniel. Very good clean copy in fine leather binding of half dark green morocco for Charles E. Lauriat of Boston. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Boards covered in Mid green cloth on boards, with the gilt stamp of Brooks School, Andover, Massachusetts seal on the front board. Top edge gilt. Plain green endpapers. Minor fading to the spine but overall a very good copy in an attractive fine binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master Bookbinder.

Harris and Son. London. 1820. FIRST EDITION. 12mo. (7 x 4.3 inches). 36pp. Illustrated with hand coloured vignette to the title page and 12 hand coloured woodcuts among the text. Some general thumbing and spotting to most pages. The hand colouring is still bright and vivid throughout. Dis-bound, but complete, in original fawn card boards, printed in black. The boards are rubbed and worn, making some the the printed area quite faint, and there are a few stains. Previous owner names and gift inscriptions, one dated 1820, on the inner front board. ---- Rare in first edition. Worldcat lists just 3 copies of this 1820 first edition, one in the UK, that in the Renier collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and 2 in the USA; The Eloise Ramsey collection at Wayne University in Detroit, and a rebound copy in the Bloomington Lilly Library at Indiana University. --- The author name, Mrs Poole (active between 1808 and 1823) is supplied by Marjorie Moon in her checklist of Harris publications. (3.9 x 2.5 inches). 48pp, including the first and last blanks which are pasted directly onto the inside leaves of the printed wrappers. Sewn text pages. Illustrated with a full page wood-engraved frontispiece of Captain Gulliver and 12 smaller woodcuts within the text. Original blue printed paper wrappers with upside-down double face illustration on lower cover. Neat ink title written on the front panel otherwise a fine copy of this scarce little edition, issued in Ross's Juvenile Library. A remarkable survivor. The work is undated but the British Library catalogue suggests a publication date of either 1814 or 1815, while the Bodleian Library estimates 1815.
