As a fundraiser to be sold by mail order and at the yearly Fall Harvest Festival (now known as the Apple Festival) this collection of recipes was solicited through the Mill Neck Manor Bulletin. The request was to the friends of the Manor to send in their favorite recipes using apples, honey, cider, and home remedies using these ingredients. Some 32 Apple Crisp recipes were received, although not all are represented within the cookbook.
