This verse drama deals with a family's quarrel over the naming of a son, Shenandoah Fish, which is obviously analogous Schwartz's name, about which he was quite sensitive. Inscribed to the poet Theodore Morrison. "Ted, from Delmore, October 1941." Illustrated by Frederico Castellon. Printed by George Hornby at The Domesday Press, New York City. 28 pp. 8vo., plain paper wrappers, wire saddle stitch. In a dark blue dust jacket, illustrated on the upper wrapper in grey-blue. Internally clean and fine; however, the dust jacket is sunned at perimeters and on the lower panel, with some light edgewear. Inscribed copies by Schwartz are uncommon, and this is a very good copy, inscribed by him.

Whitman writes "Dear M.P.," forwarding manuscripts of poems [not present] for consideration for publication: "...This is the best I can do for yr request -- The pieces have not hitherto been publish'd [insertion: 'at all'] but are to be [insertion: 'finally'] included in the [insertion: 'vol. to come'] little & out (such 'out' as it may be probably small one) in ab't three weeks or longer -- If Mr R can publish them before it will do & the proprieties conformed to - the price is $10." 1813 Romance of the ROSE Guillaume de Lorris Medieval French Poetry BEAUTIFUL

The 'Roman de la Rose' is a famous 13th-century Medieval French poem written as an allegorical dream sequence. It was written by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun who sought to express the feelings of romantic love, sexuality, and chivalry. Thought to be the most widely read book other than the Bible in the 13th- and 14th-centuries, it was highly influential on other authors including notably Geoffrey Chaucer.
This early 19th-century edition was published in Paris beautifully bound in Moroccan leather. Edited by Dominique Meon.

Hand-embroidered items: rain, flowers and grass. Machine and hand-stitched. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "Hazel Hall's poem 'Two Sewing' animates this flag book. The lovely text refers to the wind as an embroiderer and the rain as needles, so Hedi Kyle's flag book seemed like an excellent structure to give the feeling of a landscape opening out."

1514 RARE Parthenice Mariana Carmelite Mantuanus Hagiography Badius P. Incunable

Baptista Mantuanus was a Carmelite poet whose 15th-century works were influential during the Protestant Reformation. Perhaps the most influential of his works was 'Parthenice Mariana' – a collection of hagiographic poems each of which honored the lives church fathers, Catholic saints and theologians, classical writers and philosophers, mythical heroes, and iconic biblical figures. Notable names include:

• Catherine of Alexandria
• Hippolytus of Rome
• Euripides
• Jesus Christ
• Hercules
• Hesiod
• Polybius

These poems would become the basis for a new style of writing – the epic poem on religious subjects which heavily influenced Erasmus and John Milton.
