K.. xiv, 625pp. Contemporary brown half calf, spine with five raised bands, gilt decorations and titles, marbled endpapers and marbled edges. Tissued frontispiece, engraved title, and thirty-eight plates by H. K. Browne (Phiz). First edition with the errata on page xiv; with "William" for "Frederick" on page 317 line 27; with "Rigaud" instead of "Blandois" from pages 469 to 473; and with signature BB2 misprinted as "B2" on page 371. With the bookplate of the Marchese di Calvatone Sommi Picenardi. Old bookstore label affixed on the front free endpaper. Leather shows some wear to spine ends and corners, light offsetting to some of the pages. Missing the errata slip. A very good copy. ; Octavo.
Sinopsis
Little Dorrit is a serial novel by Charles Dickens published originally between 1855 and 1857. It is a work of satire on the shortcomings of the government and society of the period. Much of Dickens' ire is focused upon the institutions of debtors' prisons & mdash ; in which people who owed money were imprisoned, unable to work, until they repaid their debts. The representative prison in this case is the Marshalsea where the author's own father had been imprisoned.
