Sobre este artículo

Paris: La Librairie Mondiale No date, circa 1907-1908. Finely bound in contemporary full black morocco, five raised bands with gilt ruled borders, top edge gilt, gilt floral dentelles, marbled end pages. Very Good, spine sunned to gray, light rubbing at edges of spine and tips, prior owner name 2nd title page. The bookplate front paste down of Victoria Sackville-West, mother of novelist and poet Vita Sackville-West. SIGNED Victoria Sackville-West and dated by her 1908 on first title page. Additionally inscribed and SIGNED V.S. West by her in pencil and in French, at blank page facing title page, That inscription denotes 2 pages in the book where she has found relatives mentioned ( " mon arriere grandpere", my great grandfather, a "duc de Dorset" and "Lord DeLawarr"(?).. Additional inscriptions by her in pencil at those two pages. She has also pasted in 5 cut-out portraits of Marie-Antoinette taken from other books at front end pages. Victoria's daughter Vita became the lover of Virginia Woolf and she was the basis for Woolf's character Orlando in the novel of the same name. Virginia Woolf traced her direct ancestry to one of the attendants of Marie-Antoinette and was known to be well aware of her connection to Marie-Antoinette. And the circle is completed with this RARE book showing the Sackville-West's interest in and connection to Marie-Antoinette. Books bearing the Sackville-West bookplate are RARE. . First Edition.
