Very Good. 1931 University of Wyoming doctoral thesis submitted by Joseph Conrad Twinem pertaining to the genesis of the geological development of the lithosphere of southeastern Wyoming. Includes discussions of dozens of formations and numerous skillfully executed watercolors of cross-sections of formations, etc. Of special interest are four large watercolors, two of them 3-panel fold outs, of Wyoming landscapes, and one of the Rock Creek oil fields. Also includes 36 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" original, unique photos inserted in corner mounts - views of Wyoming camp facilities, canyons, mountains, striking geological features, Independence Rock, gold mining operations, the Pathfinder Dam, Parco, Wyoming (street view), oil distillers, a Snow Range sericite mine and much more. An avid sportsman, Endicott (1880-1954) attended Harvard University (1899-1901) and served as a director of Sears, Roebuck and Company in Chicago during the 1920s and '30s. This book includes his reminiscences of battling the "Silver King" (Atlantic tarpon) and other game fish along the Florida Keys, as well as a selection of fishing facts and suggestions. Octavo: 273 p. with 80 illustrations from photographs by the author. Original dark green cloth-covered boards over a light green spine, with gilt stamping. Just a hint of foxing to the prefatory and concluding pages, with some faint evidence of moisture along the top edge of the last three dozen pages. Tiny period bookseller's label to the front flyleaf. The spine is a touch faded, with some rubbing to the corners and tips; else about very good.

These are from the enlarged edition of 1817. The print measures 11.75 x 18.75 inches, with a plate mark of 10 x 16 inches. This is a hand colored engraving on high quality watermarked paper dated 1815 and made by W.Balston & Co. It is a beautiful decorative antique print expertly colored and beautifully composed. Curtis' work was the first study of British flora, and artists contributing to the opus included James Sowerby, Sydenham Teak Edwards, Francis Sansom and William Kilburn. This particular plate is quite bright and clean. The background paper color is lighter than my camera is portraying it, and is slightly off-white.
