More than just a cookery book, Mrs. Beeton's guide is an encyclopedia of useful information on all aspects of domestic life. Chapters of interest include table decoration, treatment and payment of servants, medicine for children and the disabled, basic legal problems and their resolution, homeopathy, design and organisation of the nursery and much more. Interestingly the cookery section of this enormous book incorporates some foreign dishes relatively new to British cuisine including Indian, Jewish and Italian food. The former colonies are represented with separate chapters on Australian and South African dishes. This book is sure to equally please those with an interest in cookery and British social history respectively. Unusually thick large octavo; viii, 1998 (last blank) pages + advertisements, colour frontispiece and 31 full-page colour plates, hundreds of black & white plates. Binding lightly rubbed yet in remarkable condition for its age and nature, internally clean and unmarked.

If Rare Illustrated Books provides tracking information indicating the book has arrived, the return is void. In cases where the book is returned to Rare Illustrated Books for any of the following reasons, the refund price includes book price only: incomplete address provided by customer, unclaimed, returned to sender, or similar.
Change of mind: For the majority of our books, we are happy to accept returns if you have changed your mind. However, some books cannot be returned for this reason. We recommend contacting Rare Illustrated Books directly before initiating any returns, otherwise the return may be cancelled. Please do not ship the book until you have received confirmation from Rare Illustrated Books to do so. If we accept your request, you will be refunded the price of the book (not including original or return shipping charges).
