Sobre este artículo

London: Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1970. Appears unread. Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket. NO chips. NO tears. NO creases. NO fading. NOT price clipped. NOT a library discard. Hinges are perfect. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. Fresh, crisp and unmarked -- apparently never read. 1970. This is a facsimile of the scarce edition of 1900, with a new introduction and additional notes by Harry Carter. Only 150 copies of the 1900 original were produced and it was never previously reprinted. Reproduced here are the 8 known type specimens issued by Oxford through 1794. There is much information on the Fell types. Appendices show devices and ornaments that did not appear in any specimen. Bound in the original gilt-stamped dark blue cloth. From the dust jacket: "Horace Hart's CENTURY is a display and a record of the typefaces given to the University of Oxford in the seventeenth century by Bishop John Fell and of other types and ornaments cast in old matrices preserved at the Press. In an appendix Hart prints the letters exchanged between Fell and his agent in Holland about the purchase of matrices and type… This reprint by photo-lithography is supplemented by an introduction and notes. Research done since the book was issued, particularly by the late Stanley Morison into the origins of the Fell types, is digested in the notes at the end of the book, and some revisions by Hart have been added. The added matter is hand-set in Fell types and printed directly from them." Oversize Hardcover. 10.25" wide by 12.5" tall. This large, heavy book will require extra postage for Priority and International shipments, but only the standard charge for media mail.. First Edition Thus. Oversize Hardcover. Fine condition/Fine dust jacket. (xiv), 16pp. xvi, 204pp. [250 total pages]. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

Sobre About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
