In an appendix Hart prints the letters exchanged between Fell and his agent in Holland about the purchase of matrices and type. The author, Printer to the University from 1883 until 1915 printed 150 copies of his book in 1900 and gave them to people prominent in the literary world. It has not been reprinted previously. The Century has come to be regarded as a classic authority by students of typographical history. This reprint by photo-lithography is supplemented by an introduction and notes.
